fsx-se I need opinions on current components for my new SIM Rig.

Hi all,

I'm still very new to simming and am absolutely loving it. Being a real world Commercial Pilot is great but being able to do everything so realistic from my bedroom is also great!

Now I'm currently running my FSX SE off of a laptop which is just not doing the job anymore with all the add-ons I've bought so I'm looking to build my first PC. After careful research I've come up with a list of components that I think would suit the job and as I'm not the smartest cookie in the jar when it comes to PC components I thought I'd give you guys a list to check over and see whether you can give me tips where I could save money on components or have alternative components that are just as good and for around the same price.

All information will be taken on board and I greatly appreciate all your opinions! 

My current list of parts I was thinking to buy is as follows:

- Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor
- Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler
- Asus Z170-A ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
- G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory
- Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
- Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
- Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070 8GB G1 Gaming Video Card
- EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
- Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer
- Corsair Air Series SP120 High Performance Edition (2-Pack) 62.7 CFM 120mm Fans

Still undecided:

- Monitor x 2
- ATX Case
- Operating System

ANY HELP/TIPS/INFORMATION/OPINIONS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

EDIT: Still also undecided on what kind of Joy Stick! I currently have a logitech extreme 3D but looking to get a new one and some rudder pedals!

Not scientific, but you might consider a larger PSU in the event you want to add a second GeForce card for SLI down the road.  You'd have to do the math to see what might be necessary.  Just a thought off the top off my head.

Not a bad idea. Something to keep in mind, though, is that the 10 series uses less power than the 9 series. The 1070 is 150W while the 980ti is 250W.

If your air cooling you may want to get fans with high airflow such as the Corsair AF series rather than high static pressure (SP Series designed for radiators).  The SP series will be ok for intakes but for exhaust fans you will want Airflow rather than static pressure.  Awesome build though :wink:

So I can have one for FSX and one for information on the 2nd. Or just having both running FSX with a nice wide view

Get the biggest ones you can handle.

G-Sync is a good option to have too.

Jordan - Just a word of caution here.  Stretching the view across two monitors puts the two adjacent monitor bezels right in the center of your forward pilot view, which may not be the most pleasant experience.  Stretching across three monitors gives a better visual experience since the center monitor in that case is your standard forward view with no obstructing bezels.

 

I use two 27" monitors with my flight sim on the one (Prepar3d v3.3.5 in my case) and the second for charts, AS16, Avsim, etc.  I will be going to three monitors after I retire in August.

I wish Nvidea would come up with a driver to mix and match monitors with different resolution. So I can have this in the middle and two 4:3 monitor with the same height resolution for the sides.
