Pilot Response Required

Recommended Posts

I always wanted to ask, what is this and why is it coming up? Massive manual... can't find it.

3 messages appear on eicas display followed by loud warning noises. Messages and warning removed by rotating the map scale knob on efis control panel.

Also, is there a way to define Cold and Dark items? Lot's of overhead functions are enabled upon C&D (selected via CDU), I would like to be able to press few more buttons on start up ;)))

Hello,

Can you list here the three messages that are displayed on the EICAS?

Just set up the cockpit in the state you want and save it as a new panel state: page 0.00.73 and 0.00.74 of the Introduction manual.

Hi,

I would think that the warning means that the plane has not received pilot inputs for quite a while and demands input to assure the pilots are not incapacitated.

Although I am not sure what happens if the plane comes to that conclusion.

I would compare this behaviour to the dead man swich on railway locomotives. If the driver doesn't regularly press certain buttons the train will assume something is wrong and immediately apply the brakes to stop the train.

But as stopping and pulling over is quite hard for a plane I don't know what will happen then :)
Disclaimer: I am not saying this is exactly what happens as I don't know that for sure, I am just guessing and the scenario makes sense to me :)

Good call, I didn't think of the Crew alertness monitor.

And it eventually just rings. Contrary to the dead man of a train, it doesn't shut down the engines and stop the aircraft, fortunately!

It is to prevent pilots from dozing off to sleep by after a certain amount of no input like moving the heading knob in cruise, creating an alert. Can be turned off in the pmdg fmc aircraft ini options - David Lee
