530XP - not on runway

Recommended Posts

Guest SuperFortress

I'm sorry, I already posted this in the Reality XP forum but unfortunately I cannot post a pic there since they require a URL. Anyway, as you can see by the pic, my aircraft appears to be completely off the runway (31L at KJFK) when in reality I'm sitting right on the runway threshold. Is there a way to correct this? Thank you.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/131385.jpg

Are you using the default JFK Airport? Have you installed an AFCAD that you downloaded for JFK or are you using an AI Traffic program which has installed one?Even if you you answer no to all the the above I wouldn't worry too much about it. The NAV database that comes with the RXP 530 may not line up precisely with the default MS NAV database, but it's close enough for government work. :-lol Ok, little joke there. It's close enough for simulation work.If you really want it, Garmin updated the NAV database for the RXP 530(the Garmin Trainer).---------------------------Go to http://www.reality-xp.com/company/news/index.htm"GNS 430XP/530XP AIRAC Sept 05 now available!: September 21st, 2005Garmin Ltd. has been kind to release a new database update for the 400 and 500 Trainer.Hi All,Garmin has been kind to update its Garmin Trainer with a new database cycle September 2005. After checking, we confirm they do work with the Reality XP software. The only change in fact is the database. You can download the new trainers from the Garmin web site:http://www.garmin.com/products/gns530/#If you want to update without loosing your actual settings in your Garmins (flight plans, etc

Yes I am using the default KJFK. No AFCADs installed and no AI traffic. Also using the latest trainer downloaded directly from Garmin. I guess I can live with it. Does that mean that there is a possibility that various VOR's, NDB's and other things could be in the wrong place as well?

The 530 is correct. Your aircraft are on the extended part of the runway - the area marked with arrows - which is not really an official part of the runway, it cannot be used for landings, only takeoffs.-

Yup, you're sitting on the displaced threshold at the intersection of taxiway Z.If you look at a current apprach plate for JFK, you'll see in the top right corner of the airport diagram inset, the landing distances available for each runway. Rwy 31L has a total length of 14572 ft, and a landing dist available of 11248 ft, meaning that there are 3324 ft (about a half a mile) of displaced threshold, usable only for takeoff, as pointed out.RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Santiago de Chile
