X-Plane Photo Scenery to P3D

Recommended Posts

Hello,

So I have just take the plunge into the P3D world.  Yes I am/ was a die hard X-Plane fanatic but am looking for deeper systems simulation in the aircraft.  So this seems to be the path for now.  And as I have found not necessarily a cheap one. However I digress.

I have created a massive amount of Photo Scenery for X-Plane all in DDS files.  I have found some topics on taking FSX/ P3D scenery to X-Plane but not so much discussion coming the other way.  Short story is it would be great to utilize the photo scenery I have in X-Plane for P3D if that is possible in any way to convert.  Otherwise I will start looking at creating it for P3D from scratch I suppose.

Thanks, and for anyone wondering I am on the fence after using P3D on which is better they both have their pluses and minuses.  Not sure I have a clear winner.  I think they are two tools for two different things honestly. None the less I am enjoying it and learning a new simulation platform has kept me busy for sure.

Which program do you prefer to make your photoscenry?  Ortho4 X-plane  or G2XPL?  Have read the directions on both programs and they sound confusing to me.

I really want to start adding photoscenery to AZ, NV, CA, CO, and NM.

I use G2XPL and I like it a great deal. It does a great job. It is command line but once you get a few things down you just plug in the next 1x1 tile and let it rip.

It did take me a little while to get the config file the way I wanted it. I am on vacation this week but when I get back happy to share my config file with you. That will make it so you only need to change the lat and long of the tile you want to process.

Here are a few links I use.

Keep track of your 1x1 tiles. http://www.goeldenitz.org/map_grid.html

Good overview, pay $10 to $20 to get the full version well worth it. http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/forums/topic/59170-g2xpl-get-it-in-post-1/

Step by step video of how to do it. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=e_4efqe614Y

Hope that is helpful.

Have you tried it yet?  I've been using P3D for quite some time but when to the X Plane a year ago. Really love X Plane's lighting and smoothness of traffic on the roads. Their photoreal software essentially comes in two flavors: G2XPL and Ortho4xp. But both are a bit painful to install. Requires quite a few steps to get it going. Been thinking of returning to P3D and then trying MegaSceneryEarth or Ultimate VFR but can't seem to locate the Ultimate VFR website anymore.....   a

Have not tried installing G2XPL yet.  Also tried to go to the Ultimate VFR website and noticed it is down.
