gtx 1080 settings for the smooth performance ?

Recommended Posts

Can  anyone who owns 1080 could please share their P3D graphic setting?

I'm using ORBX + AS16, and it's been pretty disappointing so far :(

Judging by your handle, you're flying in that area, perhaps? If so, using Orbx's SoCal is a recipe for frustration. Stuttery, blurry, laggy, slow-loading. A real system-killer and, most likely, CPU bound. So the 1080 might not help, there. I love Orbx's stuff and have most of the other regions. SoCal stands alone in its system-sapping horror.

Wish it were otherwise. If you're running it, you have my deepest sympathy.

Best,

Marshall

Is this a new PC build or just a new card?

Hi Marshall

I run Socal with my usual settings except for a very, very minimal traffic and getting the building autogen one notch down. I just did a flight from Redlands to Agua Dulce with the A2A Cessna 182 and it was neither stuttery, blurry, lagging nor slow loading.  I regularly fly out of 29Palms to various desert destinations with the 51 and it is OK too. I do the VFR route from Santa Monica over LAX without much problem with the Comanche or Skylane. San Diego is more demanding so I don't go there. Overall, most of Socal is (for me) flyable with an A2A type of aircraft. PMDG or Majestic I don't know as I don't fly. I don't have extra 3rd party airports either.

Have you made the "migration" ?

I have a 4K monitor, so that affects things. After much experimentation, I ended up with frames locked at 30, autogen at very dense, scenery complexity one level from far right, AI air traffic at 25 percent, and AI ground traffic off for PMDG and 15 percent for other planes. Shadows are the same as Rob's settings (Google "rob p3d settings" to find his web site). So far, my flights have been very smooth, even at large airports.

A 1080 will let you turn up many things, but like FSX (and Flight School) the sim is still very sensitive to the power of the CPU.

A GTX 1080 coupled with an "old" CPU will mostly likely leave you CPU bound in a lot of situations. In this case the only things where the new GPU will help is when you run 4K resolution, a triple monitor setup or you want to crank up your AA settings. And in cases where you have a lot of clouds. If you are on 1080p then you shouldn't expect a performance improvement in most cases...

I envy you. Yeah, I migrated. I've been tweaking fiber_time and affinity ad nauseum, looking for sharp rendering and low stuttering.

I'm running 4K, which makes it a challenge. On a 980ti. I suspect this is the one area where an eight- or 10-core X99 might help. I notice P3D gobbles up processors for texture-loading.

All I've got is a "lowly" 5820K. Which galls me, because CPUs never quite seem to catch up to flight sims, and the speed-growth-curve is flattening out with each new generation.

Best,

Marshall
