Alternate dests

Recommended Posts

During the flight from EHEH to EDDW I got the message that EDDW was closed for some reason.

My alternative airport should be EHGG.

So I went to my FMC and via "Index/Altn dest" I filled in the new destination EHGG.

Now my question is how to activate this new status in the FMC, in order the plane is flying Direct to EHGG iso EDDW?

Full names in the PMDG forums please.  Change the DEST on RTE page 1, enter a route, go. Or you can simply fly the heading to the alternate and leave the magenta line behind.

Thanks Dan, I thought it was possible to program a alternative route on FMC two and then to switch to this program when necessary.

Seen your answer I'm wrong, is that right?

Re Jos de Hart

Yeah, the route is the same on both FMC and this version of the NGX only has one route.  I've read that the latest software in the fleet now has two routes similar to the 777.  It will take a major update to the NGX to change this and I doubt we see that for a while.

Nice thing about diverting in the 737 is you can fly basic VOR navigation... lock on to a course or heading and then twiddle with the CDU.

U12.0 software is starting to show up in our fleet. It adds the RTE 2 capability among other things.

Out of curiosity  how did you find out that EDDW was closed? i never got this type of info from FSX ATC. Are you flying on line or you were checking EDDW in real life and turned out to be closed for real during your flight?

Hi Andrea,

This was only theoretically.

But I can image me, that such a message is given by controllers on line for e,g. safety aspects, maintenance of runways or to checks pilot's skills etc.
