T2G KMCO

Hi guys,

 

I've just done a flight in the 777 from KMCO to EGKK. Flight was uneventful and fairly smooth, however my fps tanked at KMCO. On loading it was initially 25-30fps, but as I began setting everything up it dropped to about 12fps in the VC! I carried on, and then after pushback and during taxi it rose again to around 20fps, which is fine. Shortly after i took of from 18R, it suddenly dropped to 7-8fps, which made the aircraft almost unflyable! It was only as I climbed further away that it rose again to 30fps, where it stayed pegged for the rest of the flight (including landing at LGW). I can reproduce this - whenever I take off from 18R, it drops to 8fps just after lift off. I have no idea what causes this?

 

I'm not running any AI traffic, and settings are fairly moderate for my GTX560Ti - only 2x AA. DX10 with fixer. Settings/config below. Anyone able to shed any light?

 

No other scenery in the area except MCO, Clouds from REX Soft Clouds (DXT5), real weather from ASN (SP5)

Ok I think I've worked this out on my own. It's the Sparse Grid Supersampling AA. Going back to Multisampling gives me almost 10fps more!

 

Looks like my 560Ti can't handle it, best leave it to the big boys!  :Tounge:

Beware using Multisampling for transparency AA has been known to cause pauses/stutters just before landing. Supersampling prevents that. According to Phil Taylor (Aces) it is caused by the perimeter fences surrounding many airports.

Also you should ditch that fsx.cfg file and let it rebuild, only adding affinitymask tweak. There are too many tweaks in that config, things like fiberframe, stablebuffer, swapwaittimeout etc are not needed.

Ok thanks guys. It seems to be a bit temperamental but with SGSS disabled I definitely gain a lot of frames, and to be honest on my 42" 1920x1080 TV I can't really see much difference in quality. It'll certainly suffice until I can afford to upgrade the graphics card, probably to a 1070.

 

I will try with a new cfg, I must admit I am guilty of just slapping tweaks in here and there so I agree that it is rather bloated.

T2G KMCO takes up a lot of vas space. I installed it this weekend and was flying OMDB-KMCO, on approach I got an out of memory error. Started a new flight at the gate at KMCO and had only a few hundred mb's left of vas. This airport is not optimized at all.

That's normal for FSX, one is for DX9 the other is for DX10.

I don't have any VAS issues, at least I've never had an OOM since I started using DX10. It's just low frames. I did try backing up and deleting my cfg and letting it start fresh, however my frames actually got worse! I added only the basic tweeks like affinity mask however didn't see much improvement and still less than my old cfg, so I restored it.

 

I'm sure I'd benefit from both a new GPU and overclocking my CPU over 4GHz, but I can't really afford the former and don't really feel confident doing the latter. Just getting my frames consistently at least 20 would make me happy! Having the mouse cursor on screen in the VC takes off about 7 frames too which is very annoying!

Never used DX10, many scenery developers do not support it and I have a lot of older scenery that I do not think will run in DX10 even with the fixer. Am I wrong?

Not had any compatibility issues with DX10 with the Fixer installed, and the effects such as the cockpit shadows look really nice. It also uses less VAS as it better utilises the memory of the GPU, so you're less likely to get an OOM under DX10.
