AI V22 Osprey package for FS9 released at MAIW

Recommended Posts

In case you missed the news, John Young has just released another ground-breaking package for FS9. This new contribution features the Special Operations V22 Ospreys based at RAF Mildenhall. John has been one of the most prolific and talented freeware contributors to FS9 for many years and this new release continues his habit of doing what many would have deemed impossible. Realistic flight dynamics, animations and his usual great looking models with minimal FPS impact. Get it over at MAIW....

Cheers

Ian

ps. This month marks the tenth anniversary of MAIW and they are promising TEN new releases for the month to celebrate the occasion. This one is the second. Eight more to come...................

I find nothing in your post to disagree with... :)

Thanks for the HU, have to go get Mildenhall update, as well.

Perhaps Manschy will take the cue and produce the Harrier Hides as part of the celebration, too!

Did you read the V-22 readme file? There is 3 more V-22 packages coming. HMX-1 presidential squadron, the US Marines based at Futenma, and a package with USMC squadrons at Yuma and Miramar.

Also I did install the V-22 Mildenhall package, and they look and move great!! However I have had a problem with textures loading very slowly (both AI and buildings at EGUN). I am not sure if it is because of the new V-22's or something else.

Yes I also experienced slow texture loading - it looked like the culprits were the trees on the airport boundary.

The Ospreys are great, and cleverly animated.

FS9 comes into its own with this stuff.

Congrats to John Young

Is there a way to fix the slow loading textures WingZ? Is there a tree file I need to delete?

Wonderful shots WingZ!

Thank you for the HU Ian. I look forward to checking this out after my Chisinau excursion.  :Cowboy:

I've sort of accepted the texture loading issue, as John Young pointed out there are many nearby airports populated with many many aircraft, even if (like mine) yours is a purely military sim in this application.

You might try disabling traffic in the surrounding area and see if it improves performance.

The trees perhaps were slowest to load because they load last.

EDIT: Ed we posted simultaneously!

The shots are easy when the subject matter is so good... you get these guys in the hobby who are just on another level.

Absolutely. I think we have busted the FS9.x and are now in FSXI imo.  :Nerd:

Sascha also has an imminent EVO update coming. (When he can get his wife to stop watching the Olympics on his PC! LOL) .... I'm not willing to give up on the FS9 title Ed - seems like that's tempting fate! But FS9.9 seems like it's just around the corner mate!

I was interested in your comment Ed about using FS9 exclusively for military aircraft. I'm doing the same. Though I still have a "civilian" version on my hard drive I haven't used it in some time. I have mine set up for WWII era, Korea, Vietnam (early and late), Cold War (60's, 70's and 80's) and Desert Storm. Though there are superior flyable military aircraft in FSX-SE, I can't get it close to all the options available for AI and airfields in FS9, not to mention the many utilities I have that allow me to tweak scenery and AI in an almost limitless way. Oh, and Helo 2009 which I cannot get to work in FSX-SE....

Great minds think alike mate!!! :P

To anyone who wonders how it all works, I have a single installation but separate folders for aircraft, traffic files, flights and Helo files. Changing from one to the other takes me about 5 minutes and is just a matter of changing the folder names.

I just did a quick count - in my combined WWII/Korean War version that I am currently using, I have 168 AI aircraft, ships and vehicles... Many are modified from flyable aircraft but with a few minor changes work just fine. I have 35 flyable period aircraft, 20 of them outstanding quality freeware. My largest collection is the 60's/70's folders and includes flying "intercepts" to check out TU-95 Bears flying off the coast of Norway and Scotland and landing an F4 in monsoon conditions on the USS Enterprise on "Yankee Station," surrounded by escorts and replenishment ships and plentiful AI.

No, you can't blow things up! But I have set up a large variety of "missions" that involve reconnaissance, interceptions, supply missions, carrier ops... As in the real world, the vast majority of military flights do not involve shooting or bombing but training and support. And with some fiddling, I've even managed to arrange for some fairly large formations to appear from time to time including waves of V-1 "Flying bombs" crossing the channel from occupied France or large formations of Lancasters, or B-17s, or B-24s etc.

It's just another way of expanding the parameters of the hobby for me and gives me a context in which to fly some of the greatest aircraft in history - not to mention some of the best addons ever created like the RAS Spitfire XIV, Section8 F86, CS F-104 and C-130, IRA's IDF Mirage III etc.

Cheers

Ian

package with USMC squadrons at Yuma and Miramar.
... is released. They are having a wonderful birthday bash over at MAIW!

For those FS9'ers needing encouragement about their sim, I was tickled to read:

The package will also work in FSX, but some lowering of the complexity settings in the existing MAIW sceneries may be necessary

Well I'd just run it in FS9 and be done, then :)

It is weird, Mildenhall is the only place in my sim where I am having trouble with the textures loading. I have tons of AI traffic installed and I don't have any problems at like NYC with scenery for JFK, LGA, EWR, and NYC scenery installed.

Off to install it now! I am really looking forward to the Futenma release. I have the Overland scenery for Futenma I will finally have some local AI traffic there.

Glad you guys are enjoying the packages so far.  As for the slow loading trees at EGUN, you might try removing any file name from the EGUN Scenery folder that has anything to do with trees or fences.  Depending on your hardware some of these objects don't appear to play well with the sim.

The HMX-1 package is really cool with the White Top helicopters and the HMX-1 V-22's.  It will be released next I believe, stay tuned.
