Installation after pc crash ?

Recommended Posts

I need to get P3D up an running after having to reinstall Win 10 from a pc crash. Problem is P3D was on another drive other than "C" (the one that had windows and crashed). So I do have all the correct files on "D" drive but now the registry entries are gone and I cannot uninstall P3D as it now does not show  up in programs and if I install anew it would just be overwriting rather than replacing which, I have heard, is the preferred method.

Ouch.  Not only registry but you lost appData and ProgramData files too. I'd give it a try, the installer has a repair option but you probably don't get that with missing registry. No harm but consider you also lost your scenery.cfg  and any add ons that had registry presence.

I'd try it once and then wipe if clean and start over.

What happened to your PC?? HDD crashes are rare and SSD go on for a long time.

Windows update really went south.

So you think I should install and let it overwrite current files then?

Because it will not show up on Win 10 Programs and Files uninstall section I would have to find and manually delete all areas,,any advice?

I would recommend Dan's suggestion to wipe and clean install.  Just delete the directory as your system does not know it is installed.  Make sure too you go and delete the folders where your P3D.cfg and your scenery.cfg are located.  I would backup your scenery.cfg as it will probably find all of the scenery addons you have installed (especially any photo scenery).  FSDT stuff will have to be reinstalled.  So will any FTX/Orbx stuff.  I didn't have to reinstall FlyTampa and Taxi2Gate stuff.  But you can worry about that after you have reinstalled P3D.

Best regards,

Jim
