Scenery,cfg problem.

Recommended Posts

After installing Pilots Ultimate Mesh I get the following error message when starting P3D.

Scenery.cfg error.  Scenery's remote directory is invalid.  Would you like to unload this area?  The only option is OK.

The sim continues to load after pressing OK and it looks OK.  I can fly around and nothing seems to be amiss.  But the error message is annoying.

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

There would have to be a discrepancy between the installation folder of the mesh in your scenery.cfg vs. the actual folder drive / name / location on your computer where the mesh resides.

What is the actual path to your mesh files (as shown in Windows Explorer), and what is the corresponding path listed in scenery.cfg (as viewed in a simple text file editor like notepad)?

I have Pilot's ultimate mesh too, which is installed on drive E: (as is P3D), in a folder called FSGUX, with multiple sub-folders for different regions - i.e. AFR, ANT, ASI etc.

Each regional folder contains a "Scenery" sub-folder, which in turn contains multiple .bgl files.

In my scenery.cfg, each regional folder has its own entry, with the full path name spelled out. Here is one example

[Area.104]

Title=FS Global Ultimate - Americas ANT

Local=E:\FSGUX\ANT

Layer=104

Active=TRUE

Required=FALSE

The error you are seeing most likely means that whatever path exists in the "Local" lines of your Ultimate Mesh entries in scenery.cfg is not the same as the actual path on your HD.

If the installer did not attach the actual drive letter where the mesh folders reside, it may be necessary to manually add it.

I checked the scenery,cfg file and the files are correct.  But even after deleting them to start over again the situation persists.

I'm just not compatible with P3D/Orbx.  I don't know enough about them.  I've been uninstalling and uninstalling and fixing for three years and this was my last attempt.

Thanks for the help anyway.

What Jim said ^^

Also.....

Did you check the Complete scenery.cfg ?   Or just the FS-Global Entries.

But even after deleting them to start over again the situation persists.

How many Entries in total are in your Scenery.cfg?

Do you have Many Scenery Add On's?  If you only Orbx stuff,  Just Move the scenery.cfg out of ProgramData and let Prepar3D build a new one,  See if the error goes away.

Then just work back from there

There were a lot of  entries in the scenery.cfg files.  I check a few more of the Orbx entries and they were all right.  The error message didn't point to any specific entry.

I have already deleted my Orbx folder and uninstalled P3D and have gone back to FS9.  I understand how that one works.  P3d/Orbx is too much for my limited skills at troubleshooting and I have reached the end of my tolerance level.

I did make a joke out of it.

This guy went Hell and Lucifer was showing him around.

They came on a guy sitting at a PC fully engrossed at what he was doing.

The guy said, "I know that guy.  Back on earth he was a loud mouthed, sarcastic, contrary individual that got kicked off a few forums.  Why does he get to play computer games down here?  Isn't he supposed to be punished?"

To which Lucifer replied, "Things down here aren't what they might seem.  That's Noel.  The only thing on that computer is P3D/Orbx.  He's spending eternity trying to make it work."
