transitioning from base aircraft to addon aircraft

Recommended Posts

After almost 150 hours nailing the base aircraft I am finally ready to transition into the PMDG 737. The only problem being my lack of aviation knowledge; I need help trying to learn how the aircraft works and the systems and in particular the FMC and Autopilot. Does anyone have any good tips or could recommend any guides/youtube videos that will help me get underway? Also, LNav and VNav what are they and what do they do?

Cheers

For YouTube videos just type in FSX PMDG 737 into the YouTube search bar and there should be plenty to choose

from.  The aircraft will come with manuals explaining all of the systems and procedures.  Get ready for some reading!  Keep in mind that this is not a Ctrl+E engine starting aircraft.

There are a couple flight tutorials that come with the aircraft that will give you all info you all the information you need on FMC, AP and integration of the two. It takes you through an entire flight. With that, you'll have all you need to get started and complete a flight. From there you'll find plenty on YouTube to start learning more advanced things.

Youtube and check out the avsim library. Search PMDG 737 and one of the highest downloads of all time is a very nice tutorial which is a step by step start up and close down to dark. With pics showing what buttons to click and the correct order.

You posted under FSX-SE. If you want to use PMDG aircraft you need to purchase PMDG's Steam Edition of that particular aircraft. At least that's what I had to do. PMDG has 3 Editions P3d, FSX and FSX-Steam editions.

Forget the boxed FSX. get the steam Edition with the appropriate, matching PMDG software. Get the Steam Edition of Active Sky Next and Rex Soft Clouds. Shut OFF your virus software and Windows defender. Turn "(User control slider to the bottom, OFF)". Do your installs then set your exclusions in Windows Defender. Don't worry about user control, I set mine up one gradient. All it does is ask you if you want to launch an app. Set everything to run as administrator.

Windows 10 and FSX Steam runs flawlessly for me. Big increase in FPS!

Before this ends up sounding misleading there needs to be some clarification.

PMDG only offers two versions, a P3D version and an FSX/FSX:SE version. When you buy the FSX/Steamversion it's actually the same product and license where as the P3D version is a specifically for P3D and a different license all together. You don't actually buy a separate Steam version for FSX.

As with the PMDG products, you can buy AS16 and REX for FSX as stand alone products and don't need to buy them from Steam or get Steam versions.

Your right! However you do need to download the update as noted below, you need a Steam version.

PMDG has released Service Pack 1d for existing owners of the PMDG 777-200LR/F Base Package that adds the ability to install into FSX Steam Edition as well as bug fixes. You will need to log-in to your eCommerce account and redownload the 777 installer from your View previous orders page or from your original purchase email.Click here to log-in.

I didn't say I had to pay for it.

I know I had to re-download for Steam!

It is not a separate install, the latest installer when you purchase a FSX license installs to both FSX and FSX Steam.

That's because the latest installers contain Service Pack 1d, my Original Installer did NOT have a Service Pack 1d!

What's so hard to understand?

Didn't mean to mislead anyone, just stated what I had to do.

You said you have to purchase the Steam edition and the PMDG aircraft come in 3 editions. We clarified there are only 2 versions. Not a big deal.
