What is LM up to? Do we get a P3D V3.4? or V4? anything?

Featured Replies

Just saying,

We run a 2 year project (Young Falcons) every second Saturday at our Flight Sim academy. We look after & mentor 60 kids, 30 juniors & 30 seniors, & they get lectures & do practicals on PC's (donated). This culminates in a Wings Parade, where local GA pilots donate their time & planes & fly the kids in circuits. They take off, & the kids then fly. Oh, for our 2 best students, we have a surprise L39 flight for them. A few kids have actually recieved PPL's & glider licenses.

Anyhow, All the practicals are done with FS2004, that we have also loaded in our Avro Shackleton sim & our MB326 sim as well.

When real pilots fly the sims, they actually 'brace' themselves in their seats (actual seats & controls) on touch down, such is the immersion factor we have!

So, will P3D 64bit ( or 32bit, or even FSX) make these kids, or anyone here, better pilots, or is it just the eye-candy?

Just saying!

No, none of them both.

Its just to have a better feeling during the flight. Its about give the guaranty that the sim will maybe not crash when I am doing a 10h flight, for example.

Better feeling during the flight? a guarentee that my sim will not crash when doing a 10 hour flight? (yea! Right! It will solve ALL our OOM's)

So, Lockheed Martin's business plan for a 64bit sim (not for entertainment) is to make us feel good or better when we fly, & a sim that is guarenteed will not crash if we want to fly for 10 hours continuously?   Erm...  :unknw:

To be honest I don't think casual armschair simmers are part of a global defence contractor's 'business plan'. We are copper coins in their world of cash and we have been immensely helpful to them to test their development of the platform and iron out any bugs. It's a totally brilliant use of the casual simmer base.

There is nothing wrong with FS9 - even today. I'm sure the Young Falcons group love it - as most of them probably don't have the ability to kit themselves out with a similar flightsim setup. But I'm sure their experience will be enhanced through the tech advancements in graphics and a more sophisticated platform. Like with anything, it depends how you use it.

I'd think the aim is to advance the user experience (in the training environment) and capability of the system. More sophisticated visual cues(better eye candy) and 'a better learning experience' through more a more advanced platform would be the intended result.

It's like driving a car from point A to B. Would you rather drive the 2004 Toyata Corolla (perfectly capable and comfortable) or would you rather drive the 2016 BMW 3 series. The Corolla driver will almost always opt for his trusted Corolla - until he's driven the BMW

I appreciate that a 64bit version of P3D will be very welcome, but to be perfectly honest, what I really want at the moment is a 0.6m per pixel version of my England & Wales VFR Photographic scenery (with much more consistent texture quality and colouration than the existing 1.2m per pixel version), and UK2000 Xtreme versions of ALL of the major airports and larger GA airfields in the UK. I have spent a long time building up the UK in P3D (and FSX before it) to a level of quality that I am happy with, but there is still work to do. What I do not want to have to do is start again from scratch!

Since this thread is about something that doesn't exist, I am wondering on a tangent why I would want to buy another 32 bit sim when my 32 bit fsx se is working well?

Better yet, why not use FS2002?

Will a multitude of shadow options make people better pilots? Autogen fixes? Pop-up fixes? HDR? Dynamic reflections? DX11? Volumetric fog? Speedtrees? 3D water? The hundreds of fixes to make 3rd party eye candy addons work over the years? The better SDK for scenery designers?

LM cares about eye candy no matter how many people assert their "real" customers don't care about it or it's not necessary.

Wow, a bunch of people passing on their comments, which is good, but I prefer don't losing my time in speculating, prefer investing my precious time in flying with the existing versions, either P3D v3.2 or 3.3 (for those that already upgraded). When LM releases the next version (either 32 or 64 or 128 and so on, bits, we'll see if we move on or we wait).

Be happy.

Most of us have bad impulse control. Most of us will get it and then we'll all start the same forum threads with new titles and go looping the loop all over again. We are a funny bunch

I am anxious to click on the "BUY" buttom for addons in these days as I do know whether the next version of P3D will still support it... :nea:

One reason that these types of threads tend to go off rail is that so many folks here only see Prepar3d as only a flight sim. Just spend a little time looking into all the areas that Prepar3d impacts for LM and you will see that the "eye candy" AKA a better more real simulation of our world becomes more important. This sim supports things like Tank Training, search and rescue, disaster relief, submarines, aircraft carriers and I even saw some place where it is being looked at for urban planning in big cities where road traffic, rail traffic, and subways can all be simulated together to plan future developement. Trust me folks...I was at the top of my class in my third year of the 4th grade! LM does not spend all this time and treasure Just so that we can have fun toys. We just happened to get lucky and someone at LM realized that inviting us into this world would be a win win situation.

Just because there is a new P3D V4 (64 bit), you DO NOT have to start from scratch.. we can continue using the amazing V3.3.5

Maybe, to avoid dissapointment, think of a 64bit P3D as a totally new sim, starting from scratch. If some stuff will work, then it's a bonus.

That is almost certainly what I will do if the 64bit version does not support my addons. The ones that worry me the most are Ultimate Traffic 2, and all of my Earth Simulations scenery packages....

Just think back to the good old days....

Did your payware add-ons for FS2004 work perfectly in FSX?
