Making the jump to Projectors - Canon REALiS WUX450ST Pro

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

What do you guys think about the following projector, I may purchase three of these for the flightdeck.

Canon REALiS WUX450ST Pro AV 4500L WUXGA Short Throw LCoS Projector

Here is the link:
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1248214-REG/canon_1204c002_realis_wux450st_pro_av.html/?c3api=3679%2Cbing%2C2764376398%2C1105202454812

Anyone know of any better prices out there for this projector, best I've seen is $4,995.00?.

Thanks
Mike

I thought the whole reason you went out and got the 4K tvs was due to NatVis cost, projector bulbs, ambient light etc. So you are now contemplating switching from the TVs? Was it the bezels and angles of them that got in the way?

Hi,

The bezels, don't like them at all. I'll still use the 4ks in the house and take the HDTVs we have now and put them in the guest house.

I figured that was going to be the deal breaker. Yes when watching your cockpit vids I asked myself man how can he live with those. Glad to hear you are going the projector route. Is the blending solution going to be done via Fly Elise or something similar? Would love to see a few setup vids when it is all said and done.

I don't think a 1080p projector will be sufficient resolution wise. I think on a >100" screen you'd need a 4K projector. The problem is that the cheapest native 4K projector from Sony is like $7k.

I believe eventually VR with high resolution screen will be the ultimate solution.

Hi Yang,

Three 1920x1200 projectors covering 200 degrees will work just fine, my biggest concern is the washed out look that I am going to notice over the 4Ks. As far as VR headsets with Hi Res screens, not going to work with full flightdecks.

What 4K Short Throw projectors have you seen for 7k from Sony?.

Hi,

I've spent over 100 grand on my simulator, another 15 gets me closer to as real as it gets.

Here is my simulator: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqTiCN9u_pvyU9NTqhtgJ9w

This should give you a better idea on what I have. Anyway. back to my original ?... Anyone see them cheaper than 5k?.

Thanks

Mell,

You will not get used to the less sharp projection images compared to your razorsharp 4K tv's...

Recently I was able to sit in a 737-800 sim with 3 professional 1920x1080 projectors.

It was one seamless image , but way less sharp then what I have ....

From a far distance projectors look nice but close-up is a different story

Here a small vid from my setup and see what I mean with led tv sharpness :

I only see one of bezels because of the construction and they don't disturb me at all,

Just wait for all your pc's to be delivered and start enjoying your great sim ....

I would spend the money on a motorized TQ and Trim wheel instead of these projectors. They have tremendous light run off and as Gerard said, are not nearly as sharp as a good 4k TV

Let me guess.... you want 64bit.

Hi Josh,

I have a Jetmax throttle quad that works just fine in the sim for now, I will be adding a quad that has stepper motors in the future, but looking at throttle handles and what not moving by themselves does not justify the cost of 17k over the Jetmax. Well, not right now anyway, not with other things I can buy.

Still mowing it over Gerard, I've been in a friends flight deck and he has optima's installed and it just looked a little washed out... Didn't really notice the sharpness being a factor, BUT and this is a big but... That was before I started using 4ks.

Looking at prices right now.

A true 4k projector will run you over $40k each. There are cheaper models out there advertised as being 4k, but actually use pixel shifting to give the impression of being 4k. I don't think the 1080p will be a problem. It comes down to viewing distance from the screen, and the reflective quality of that screen.

Hi,

I agree, 1920x1200 at four or five feet is not going to be a problem. Got word from Jetline, I should have the four additional computers by Wednesday.

4500 lumens and a 3 chip  I can't see anything better,  anything less than  3000L  would be like watching movies, when the sun shines with those projectors you will need shades.
