777-LR 23 hour flight

Recommended Posts

Guest Gordius

I guess by now you will have seen the news that the 777 LR has taken off on a 23 hour record breaking flight. I wonder if PSS timed their release for that .Perfect flight though don't you think? I'm certainly up for it, shame it has already taken off and that I am busy on the Kings Cup Race this weekend (not that I have been shopping to PSS yet either :-) ). Not to mention my attempt to fly Concorde RTW in a little over 24 hours in two weeks time (glutton for punishment, I know).So. Who wants to give it a try? Anyone have the exact route? Thought I would go for it in about 3 or 4 weeks once I have got used the new 777.Andrew BrownRoaring Thirtieshttp://www.gordiusfs.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/192029.png

Ouch! 23hrs! Hats off to the crew. I could never do that no matter how wonderful the airplane. Probably why Im destined never to be a long-haul airline pilot hee hee. But still...very impressive!

I reckon that the flight is a bit of a con really -- sure, the aircraft will fly 12500 miles , but with only 35 passengers. If they really want to show what the a/c can do , it should have a full load - lets see how far it can fly then!Barry

No one, including Boeing, is saying that this is the norm. However, at 9000 nm and change they will be able to connect a lot of cities not done before.

Does anyone have any links of where to track this flight?

I'm sure something within 23 hours of flying the PSS 777 something will go wrong and you'll have to start over.

You couldn't replicate this with just any 777, you would need a -200LR, wouldn't you?? (assuming fuel consumption is accurate)

I wonder if like me when setting out on a 24 hour flight they are, after 9 hours wishing they hadn't started :-)Out of interest does anyone else here ever fly such flights? My longest at one stretch was four days in a Beaver from New Guinea to Alaska. Slept for 3 or 4 hours a few times. Last period of flight exactly 24 hours. Always looking for a challenge which is what made me sit up and take a look when i saw it on the AVSIM homepage.Andrew BrownRoaring Thirtieshttp://www.gordiusfs.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/192029.png

They're trying to beat Airbus to the punch, before they can do the same with their A-380! If the succeed it would make it harder for Airbus to surpass, and would be a major PR coup. The danger is if they are unsuccessful, for any reason, such as unexpected headwinds etc... Airbus will never let them hear the end of it!!

Thanks

No, Airbus A380 can't fly that far (not even close) so it won't attempt to beat the record.Michael J.WinXP-Home SP2,AMD64 3500+,Abit AV8,Radeon X800Pro,36GB Raptor,1GB PC3200,Audigy 2http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/747400.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_beta_member.jpg

I work at Boeing in St. Louis, and the company web said that there would be 3 crews onboard. Still thats a long time in the air. I fly business from St. Louis to Korea occasionally and that trip wears me out, and I am not flying the plane. :)It would be fun to try and duplicate the flight in FS2004.
