New P3D PC Build : Which combination ?

Recommended Posts

Hello Guys,

I'm building a new pc for P3D in next few weeks.

first of all i have to say i expect P3D to be running in 30/40 fps on 1080p or 900p with PMDGNGX , Complex sceneries (like Aerosoft heathrow) , REX and FTX Global.no background software since i have a remote laptop.

ok , with my budget there is 2-3 part combinations. all of them will be Over Clocked as high as possible.

1-6600K + GTX970 + 16GB 3000 + HDD + HYPER EVO 212 (cooling)

2-6700K + GTX960 + 16GB 3000 + HDD + HYPER EVO 212 (cooling)

3-6600K + GTX960 + 16GB 3000 + SSD + HYPER EVO 212 (cooling)

4-i can get SSD with decreasing the RAM to 8GB on the two first ones.

--------------------------------------------
My questions are:

1-which combination would you recommend ? will it run to my expectations ?

2-i don't care about loading times , do i still need an SSD?

3-is that cooling enough for OCing to 4.5ghz ?

4-Do i need 16gb or 8gb would be enough ?

Thanks in advance !

1 - 1 and no

2 - no

3 - probably not

4 - 8gb is enough

My advice?  Hang fire a bit longer and save a bit more.  You want a better video card, and better cooling.  The 6600k isn't an issue as opposed to the 6700k, but would recommend a 1060 at least (pref a 1070) and either a Noctua 15 cooler or a Corsair H80 or better for cooling

Thanks for your response.i found a good liquid cooler with almost same price so that shouldn't be a problem

unfortunately 1060 is not available here and it will be very expensive in it's first 2-3 month .( things are different here -_-)

so i'll have to wait at least 3 months so it's not an option.

i have to go with either no.1 or no.2 .

you said that it won't run with my expectations. did you consider that i will be running in low resolutions ? (1600*900)

if i get a used 970 for no.2 will it ?

I'm getting the same setup

i will really appreciate it if you share your results when you got it.

Not too sure about @ 1600*900, but there isn't a machine in the world that will run what you want @40fps at 1080p, I would highly doubt that a 970 would get anywhere near that.  If you back the sliders and anti aliasing etc off a bit, you may get 30fps with a 970.  Could you stretch to a 980Ti now that they have come down a hell of a lot?

In Croatia at least, 980Ti is more expensive than 1060 and even 1070 (basic models).

I will share, i should be getting the components in a week or two, have to get them from two or three different stores.

I've set up a new system myself and am waiting for it to be delivered. To be clear, I put it together myself (with help from some on here).

6700K overclocked to something like 4.5

16GB of RAM

GTX 980Ti 6GB

Noctua DH15S cooler along with pre-installed case coolers

Like I said, it's not here yet so I can't provide you with any input as to how well it runs but it should deliver a decent performance in demanding situations (NGX, FT sceneries, clouds etc.)

I think you can manage that with your setup, BUT, it won't be able to do that everywhere!

I live near KEWR. So I like to fly from "home". Depending on your sim settings and plane I can be in the low teens. However, with the default flight (F22 in Florida) it's easy to have and maintain high frames with almost everything on (to the right).

Please manage your expectations. If you are in a known bad spot for performance (NYC for me) you probably won't be running all sliders up, flying a complex aircraft and getting high frames.

As for your options, I'd go with a 6700k. Why? It's always been my belief that, for my entertainment (happiness), you get the best you can afford. Is the price difference between a 1060 and 1070 that different?

For reference, I have a 6700k, ASUS 1080 OC edition, WD Black 4TB and the Noctua 15.

If on a budget, the 6600K will be fine. 8GB RAM is also fine, but make sure you get a decent kit. [GSkill Ripjaw V].

Hyper 212 Evo is a great budget cooler, you can expect up to 4.5 GHz dependant on how the silicone lottery favours your chip. But put it this way... I'm currently overclocking a 6700K with the fantastic Noctua NH-D15S, 4.6 GHz and very cool. Ultra quiet too, barely hear it even at full RPM. Zero chance of leaks and no pump to fail. No moving parts, will last forever.
