Van collides with Dragonair A330 at Hong Kong...

The driver may have had a stroke, or other medical condition, in which case he has my sympathy, but when you look at the videos, it seems he made a bee-line for the engine.... Deliberate? Suicide attempt?

Of course, the running engine may well have sucked the van towards it because it was so close...

Hong Kong is right hand drive like the UK so it was the driver side that hit the engine, he appears to turn sharp into the engine just before impact. Could be a medical condition mixed with object fixation. Not sure why someone would think they could kill them self that way as it is a low speed impact.

More than likely not paying attention. probably driving and texting or something to that effect. Not a good idea on an airport but goes on more frequently than you might think.

Looking at various reports and footage on Google it's quite disturbing to see them saying that the plane collided with the van. WRONG. the van collided with the plane. The plane was taxiing, ordinarily a vehicle should not have been anywhere near, surely?

 

A relatively low speed impact, but it's strange how the van appeared to accelerate quite rapidly towards the A330.
