Finally found a solution on the freezing problem with the 777

just turn updates off when flying

That's what I am doing but I am wondering why I have such a large virtual size for that one svchost.exe. Do you see anything like that in your Process Explorer?

331448K right now in the NGX doing KSEA-KJFK.

I searched Microsoft and there is an update to update Windows Update which solves the problem so I'm now downloading 890 MB of updates (I had just reinstalled my Win7 so a lot of catching up) and the svchost.exe is holding at about 1.2 GB. For routine updates, I'm sure it will be much lower.

Im getting these freezes during task switch in P3DV3....  the sim actually continues to work, but the image is freezed up.   I have the GTX1070, last envidia drivers, win 7  64bits updated SP1 and few tweaks.

Browsing about memory overide found that its about a parameter supposed to limit the maximum amount of video memory used by your sim.... (I dont really understand this, hope someone can explain that definition).

In any case, this is what you got depending on the value you can add to your CFG file:

//VideoMemoryOverride=268435456 //0.25 GB

//VideoMemoryOverride=536870912 //0.5 GB

//VideoMemoryOverride=1073741824 //1.0 GB

//VideoMemoryOverride=1610612736 //1.5 GB

//VideoMemoryOverride=2147483648 //2.0 GB

//VideoMemoryOverride=2684354560 //2.5 GB

//VideoMemoryOverride=3221225472 //3.0 GB

//VideoMemoryOverride=3758096384 //3.5 GB

//VideoMemoryOverride=4294967296 //4.0 GB

What are those Gbs?   Vcard memory...or...

Im going to test and see what happens....

My PC: I7 6700K  GTX1070 Win7 64bits 32GB RAM

This tweak did it for me. Also, check if no defragging or virus scanning programs (or possibly windows update if it's performance intensive, which depends) are active. If so, shut them down. I also changed the SimConnectStallTime=1 to =2, this is a tweak recommended by Pete Dowson for anyone who has problems with the stuttering.

I'll have to confirm that I have solved my problem but is SimConnectStallTime in FSUIPC? I have only FSX. If I still have freezes, I'll try the VideoMemoryOverride next.

I found that, on my PC, the Windows Update causes one of the svchost.exe's Virtual Size to increase from about 220,000 K to about 2,400,000 K within a few minutes after starting the PC. When Windows Update is off, the Virtual Size goes from about 117,000 K to about 212,000 K and I no longer have freezes.

You are misinterpreting information.... all active 64b applications show up in process explorer with a virtual size of 2TB.  They are only using the amount required.  Also, you cannot add virtual memory space like that.... you can have 20 modules loaded with 2TB of virtual memory each and still only be using 0.002TB (2GB) of memory for example.

All I have are the observations that when the virtual size shown in Process Explorer for the svchost.exe which is related to Windows Update, was 2.4 GB, flights in FSX were inevitably freezing and that, now that the virtual size is controlled at 300 MB, flights are not freezing.

I should probably not try to interpret them but just be thankful that the problem seems to have been solved.

Glad to hear that it worked!....

I decided to update W7 and step up to Win 10, its been a rough ride to get this new windows fully updated and adapt it to the SIM(Tweaks and shutting down functions), but configuration is easier and P3D seems to work very stable so far.     Time to test PMDG 777.

According to your advice i will change this and test:

SimConnectStallTime=2  -->  FSUIPC INI File...

VideoMemoryOverride= 8589934592  --> my 8GB GTX1070

Not sure about what i am doing  :wink:   but i liked that statement

... now that the virtual size is controlled(...)  flights are not freezing....

And......  i trust Mr. Downson :Devil:  ....  so...

I´ll let you know if its working... =@

All right.... Not working......

SimConnectStallTime=2  -->  FSUIPC INI File...

VideoMemoryOverride= 8589934592  --> my 8GB GTX1070

Those parameters just wont work.  I performed the flight without attempting to switch to another task....  everything was ok, but.... as soon as i tried....  i got the freezed image....

Any other clue?   (I mean, shuting down WIN10 update is really going to work?)     Feel kind of dissapointed now...

:fool:

What exactly is happening when you task switch?

Do you mean the sim freezes permanently and never gets going again?

Exactly.    But, since i use EZCA, i can actually hear that i can change views(Outside and inside) by hearing the noise, but the image is freezed out.    Ive waited for 10 min maximun(No more than that), and keep freezed out...

Indeed, onbly happening with PMDG B777.... :fool:

Okey, now i feel disapointed.    Cant make it to work...  Browsing around found its a widely known issue(Never happened to me while i had mi old PC and P3D - W7 until July 2016), but now i bought a real high end system and i have to to deal with it .... i mean.... Long hauls are a "dream" for us with this product.  You just can not task switch....even got to dissable any computer messages, because if you get switched, you get freezed... :fool:

Come on! :Hmmmph:    i mean....   B777 is supposed to be a high end/last tech aircraft.....and i get this freezing problems using lastest hardware?  Solution, step back to old pc?    No PMDG solution around?

Too bad...

Thinkling about.....  the new B747 they announce....  Dont feel like even trying it ....     :fool:

So....Yeah,  Lets Bump this one....

WIN10 64bits / 32RAM  SSD / Full updated /i7 Skylake/ 1070GTX

If you have any other options please, let me know....

Thanks

I apologize for not following this thread closely... nothing made sense so I just lurked to see where it went.

I don't know what you mean by freeze.  That word can mean many things from a long frame (stutter) to an application that hangs for over 5 minutes.  May I suggest we start with a definition of the problem?

What happens to the problem when you use the default prepar3d.cfg file?

Thanks for being interested, hope we can get to a final solution...  I tested the override thing, from 0.5 to up 8Gb which is my Vcard Mem Size....   Not working at all....   I actually did performed a 4 hour flight with the B777, but randomly, as soon as i switch betwen tasks(Review my AS16 settings, or, look for other google info, well, i get the freezing state display....

Freeze definition(In my case and i bet is the same in general):    Image steady, no changes, but if you try switching cameras, you can actually hear it is working(Inside, outside...), but display is not changing.  Ive waited up to 10 minutes...

Will try the default CFG and see....

If you are using the Autosave feature of FSUIPC you could turn that off and see what happens. I use it but every system is different.
