VoxATC 7 Beta bugs

I noticed that the Procedure Pronunciation Editor is not working in 7.3. Is it because it's a beta and not fully functional, or a bug?

Not working  in what sense? Generating an error or not changing the pronunciation? The utility  only edits VOXATC XML configuration files, so it should  be possible  to pin down why it isn't working  for you in 7.3.

Just a wild shot in the dark on my part but try the VOXATC flight plan  voice training utility for flights that mention  Utopia  Radio.

Thanks Jay, forgot about the VoxATC Flight Plan voice training utility. I guess what I was trying to figure out is if there was a reason why VoxATC wouldn't provide taxi clearance or approach airport information for the two airports I was flying to and from the other day in Puerto Rico.

Is anyone having issues with assigning a working PTT button on a controller? Neither my yoke or joystick is able to perform a PTT function.  All controllers are working under the OS and the vox utility for joystick setup seems to work, in that it recognises a button press but then in sim that button does nothing?

Jay, I've tried that numerous times. I've done the general and flight plan specific training. I just recently tried doing the flight plan voice training for the flights I was going to try just prior to each flight. No joy.

If you would like to give it a go, you can try to find an airport that doesn't have an FSS frequency assigned using ADE (look under Lists/Comms) and fly a VFR flightplan. After contacting unicom for airport information, Vox will prompt you to contact FSS (Utopia Radio) to open your flightplan. That's where the trouble lies.

You can also try to complete a VFR flight when the destination airport is non-towered, which is something I cannot do. At some point, while enroute, approach will prompt you to "Report airfield in sight". When you do that, nothing else happens with regards to contacting your destination field. Version 6 worked fine but there's a problem in v7 that makes it impossible to use vox for VFR flights at uncontrolled airports. Give it a shot, maybe you can figure out a workaround.

I think that's definitely worth a report.  Can you email me the log for the Mooney flight please so I can have a look?  Did you continue the flight until touchdown?

Kevin, any ideas on what the problem might be?

I can't use Vox if I can't complete a flight properly.

Never had this issue with all the earlier evolutions of Vox, with FSX.

I'll try those options with error logging on to see if I can make any sense of what's happening.

I tired a VFR flight from Ogilvie River to Dawson (Yukon) and as you pointed out, there is no response from "Utopia Radio" after the initial message to tune to 122.2. Here's a snippet from the error log, so it just doesn't work:

Aircraft exception Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at com.intworkings.voxatc.ISStartMulticom.Run()
   at com.intworkings.voxatc.Instructor.CheckState()
   at com.intworkings.voxatc.Instructor.Run()
   at com.intworkings.voxatc.RadioOperator.Run()
   at com.intworkings.voxatc.FSAircraft.Run()
   at com.intworkings.voxatc.AircraftWorker.Run()
Log Start 05/03/2017 23:05:24

I'll try the second suggestion tomorrow if I get a chance.

I've had an issue I haven't seen posted yet. This happened on 2 different flights to 2 different airports (KETB to KLUM and KNTP to L35) Both were VFR from uncontrolled airports to uncontrolled airports. In both cases I could not contact my destination. Hitting 0 then 4 resulted in returning to the prompter as if I had done nothing. I could request a frequency change to my destination, but the prompter directed me to return to the controller frequency. If I ignore that, tune to the destination Unicom I could contact Unicom, get airport information and the airport would, "come to life," but the prompter continues to direct me to contact the last controller I was connected to. I was able to open and close fight plans in both cases by contacting the appropriate FSS.

I'm still having some issues with 7.3 when flying VFR to/from non-towered fields. First, if I'm told to contact "Utopia Radio" to open my flightplan nothing happens, no response at all. If I'm told to contact any other FSS other than Utopia Radio, then it's fine. I know that "Utopia", like "Oceanic" are just generic names if the airport in use doesn't have the appropriate frequencies, but, if you can't open your VFR flightplan then you don't get any further with Vox, you're pretty much stuck.

The second problem I'm having is while airbourne, enroute to a non-towered field, after being handed-off to approach, I am prompted to "report airfield in sight". This is being given at approx. 40 miles from the field. There are no further comms, no traffic advisories, no chatter from other AI, nothing, silence. When I respond, "airfield in sight" (at around 10 miles out), there is nothing from Vox, no additional prompts or instructions, however, the traffic advisories begin again. I have attempted to contact the destination field via unicom, and I can even sometimes get the menu prompting, "Nxxxx, XY Miles from XYZ, At XYZ feet, Landing XYZ", but this is always met with. "unavailable at this time". I have not been able to overcome this problem. This was not the case with v6. You were always told to "contact XYZ unicom, frequency change approved..." and then you switched to the destination unicom, asked for airport information, and then you were given the menu with choices for pattern entry, base, final, etc.

These 2 issues are deal-breakers for me. I can't switch to Vox7 if these issues aren't fixed. I have reported them to Tegwyn again, but no reply as of today.

Can someone please confirm that these 2 specific issues are repeatable? Or, is it just me that is having these problems?

This is the same issue I posted on Monday, top of page 15.

Unfortunately, no one has found any way around this issue. I've tried for many, many hours with no luck. The other issue, Utopia Radio not working to open your flight plan, can be worked around, sort of, so that you can at least continue your flight, but the issue with not being able to ever get prompted to contact your destination is the deal-breaker. Can't use VoxATC v7 for VFR flights into uncontrolled fields.

There is a workaround, but to use it, you are almost better off in advanced mode, as you simply have to ignore the prompter and proceede as follows: As you approach your destination request a frequency change to your destination airport's Unicom frequency, request airport information, you can announce your position in the pattern if you want (AI traffic will ignore you just like they do in 6.52 when the prompter is working, ie. pulling out to take off in front of you after you've announced you're on final) After landing you can switch to FSS to close your flight plan (if Utopia radio doesn't work I've had some luck using the actual published FSS).

Ok, I see your point about just ignoring the error and proceeding. I never use expert mode so I'm sure I never would have found that workaround. It would be nice if the developer would fix these glaring bugs before v7 is released. I know that I've reported these (and other issues) to him, as I'm sure others have as well.

There is also the issue of v7 not correctly processing add-on airports. That has also been discussed here and reported to the developer.

Just wanted to add my name to this problem. Flew EGKK to LEMH today using 7.3 in PMDG 737. Flight was perfect until just after aquiring glide slope at LEMH. FO was asked to contact tower for landing but could not change radio to tower frequency. I did continue to touchdown and cleared the runway myself. Re-checked radio and found that it was now set to ground frequency. Moved backwards and forwards between active and standby and then atc told me to clear runway! Ended up finding my own parking spot just to finish flight as I could get no further sense from atc. I definitely think that  this is worth reporting so that the developer can look into it. Unfortunately I never kept a log I only stumbled across this topic tonight.

This is a hit and miss, because it works for me most of the time without a glitch.
