Float Plane adventure in British Columbia

Recommended Posts

For our upcoming flight on Oct 8, I suggest the following flight plan.

https://skyvector.com/api/loadplan?id=168889.aXp8EpJGBzgfufPRMiNR6aFM58kUKenI&c=301&z=2&lat=48.69833&lon=-123.45035

This is a first test to see if this plan can be loaded...

If successful, you can try it out.

If not, maybe someone can send me instructions..

We'll start at CAC8 which is the FSX Sea Plane Base for Nanaimo, BC
and learn to taxi our aircraft by working our way south to the main passenger loading dock for Harbour Air, the biggest float plane airline in the world (I read that somewhere..)

https://www.harbourair.com/

Then we'll take of towards the south, overfly CYCD Nanaimo International Airport, and head for CMAP Maple Bay Sea Plane Base.

Our further route will take us to Ganges on Saltspring Island,  Vancouver Harbour,  Pitt Meadows Sea Plane Base,  YVR South Sea Plane Base, and lastly, Victoria Harbour.

These are routes flown by Harbour Air, in Twin Otters, and Beavers.

I will be flying a Kodiak Floatplane for this adventure.

If we have time at the end, we can continue to Orcas Island, just so we can say that this was an international flight..

Suggested scenery is FTX PNW, and FTX Nanaimo freeware.

I notice there are a couple of land bases. Would amphibians be a good choice of airplane? As opposed to float planes, that is.

We are only expecting to land on water, but my airplane is actually an amphibian..

Hope not to need that capability

Another possible candidate.. C206 turbine conversion.

Edit: then again, maybe not.  Visibility out the front is bad and there is no Throttle Reverse, so no way of slowing down, or backing up the airplane.. Sticking with the Kodiak

If you want to help others enjoy the multiplayer experience, don't forget to enter your aircraft details on the multiplayer spreadsheet! (linked here)

Do you guys fly online together?

Roger.

The developer has posted that the Mark 1 modelled had no reverse, so slowing down has to rely on the drag from the water.  The FSX pushback (SHIFT+P) does work on the water though.  Several times already I've had to pull myself off the docks I've crashed into.... :shok:

Indeed we do, but in FSX only.

Off topic - One of our chapter members sold his Beech 18 / C-45H to a group in Germany during Airventure '16. ( I sat under the wing during the sale ) After 2 months in Janesville getting a final look over & ferry tanks installed, she's ("Lady Lynn") on her way.. Daunting, "Hard Core" etc.. are just  a few of the adjectives that come to mind. Will miss her.

Today she's on her way to Greenland - http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N480P
