I flew the NGX out of FLL, shifting winds, near zero visibility lightning and ice at higher altitudes. Had to handfly, the AP couldnt handle it. AS16 was amazing. For comparison, I flew the same route with Xplane..it was a joke, the sun was partly out.

Beautiful photos David. Quick question, how do you get such a lovely, dark night environment in FSX? Or is this P3D?

Dinshaw.

You didn't use vanilla xplane weather, did you ?

Its not like it would make any sense to compare stock xplane weather with a commercial product...

Especially if you are using P3D that IIRC is not able to use real world weather out of the box, unlike X Plane.

Of course I am all for AS16, but in X-Plane we have a great ( free ) plugin named NOAA Plugin. Try that one and see how you find it...

Overall, IMHO, X-Plane translates, specially through NOAA plugin injceted weather, much better responses from the flight dynamics model to wind shift, variability and turbulence than it is possible in FSX / P3D. Not a fault of the weather injectors, but rather of the flight dynamics core itself, I  believe...

Only thing lacking in XP is proper updraft / downdraft modeling out of convective or orographic... Maybe XP11 fixes that...

I use FSGRW with skymaxx pro and RWC. Its not the in the same league as AS16.

Of course these can't compare, in visuals ... nor in functionality...

But the free NOAA plugin, even used with default XP weather, does a very nice job!

I'm using p3dv3 but it all comes down to in sim HDR settings which I change for night flights, PTA and, Ultimate Realism pack 0.95. For FSX you can get the same results with ENB if your on DX9 or sweetfx if your on dx10,there is a program that let's you edit your sweet settings in sim which makes it easy,I don't rememebr the name as I use p3d exclusively now

I get good results in terms of general light and colors:
