SimObjectPaths in Prepar3d.cfg no longer needed? v3.4.9

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure if this is a version thing, but it seems i no longer have the simobjectpaths in the prepar3d.cfg.. there of course is simobjects.cfg.. is this basically the same thing?

is it ok to put the entries back in the prepar3d.cfg for compatibility for older programs (things like ultimate traffic 2 etc)?

Though  I think the simobjects.cfg is basically the replacement and that any relevant 3rd party compatible addons that were in the [main] section before should go there (and no need to have them under main anymore)?

Do I have this right?

Just double checking

Simply put - leave it alone. It has been several versions that Simobjects has not been needed in prepar3d.cfg file. There is no need for backward compatibility. All relevant entries go into the Simobjects.cfg file.

Most of the UT2 installation guides still have the setting in Prepar3d.cfg. Why, I have no idea. Maybe that should be corrected.

It will be corrected when "If" (probably never) UT2 is updated to run in Prepar3D.  The only reason for the Entry in the Prepar3D.cfg or the fsx.cfg (Copy of Prepar3D.exe)  is so the UT2 Control Panel can function correctly by having a Path=

Note to beginners:  You Do Not need this Entry  "SimObjectPaths.0=SimObjects\UT2 Aircraft" in the above ^ .cfg files.   If you just want to see UT2 Planes in Prepar3D you Only need to set up your exe.xml  In AppData\Roaming Or ProgramData (Only 1 Location) and your simobjects.cfg in ProgrmaData,  Everything else can be left alone.

=============

Oh i completely agree about moving forward and using only Prepar3D V3 Compatible software,  But if folks are going to Install UT2 Into Prepar3D they are better of doing so Without (No) Migration Tool Involved

I would agree 100%. Also would like to say that following Poppet's UT2 install guide, I have some truly amazing traffic in my P3d simulation, perfect! Thank you very much!

In addition, after installing UT2 following the guide, I can install many more FSX add ons into P3d, without using any migration tools:-)

David
