Ughh... Those clouds...

Yep

looking beyond the Ughh clouds it looks exceptional for a vanilla sim. Does it not?

Well I dont know what his settings are, but the anti-aliasing is quite poor as well. But I am sure that is something that can be fixed. Without a doubt, the biggest problem in that video was the clouds, but it is undeniably a promising sim.

Let me guess.... you want 64bit.

Well this was probably recorded on a dev machine which is probably a relatively old MacBook Pro.

The aliasing and shimmer in that demo is absolutely not representative of what can be achieved now in XP10 with a reasonably good setup. It's as bad as the recent flight school video. I guess Laminar doesn't care?

Anyway, all I can say for those thinking of trying X-Plane who haven't tried the current version, is that it's possible to get smooth, non-aliased edges and shadows in the current sim, with no shimmer. It's reasonable to expect that XP11 will be fine in this respect. Laminar just needs to get someone who knows what they're doing to produce these videos!

Well no. They keep on abruptly redrawing throughout the flight. It's very bad.

Not entirely my experience. At 2560x1440 with HDR on, I've found that even the highest settings of AA available within the sim does not eliminate all shimmer. I can get it to a point where I don't notice it as much, but there are still combinations of altitude, visibility and landscape where it stands out. And considering that I can't run 2560x1440 with full 8x AA and still keep all the other options and settings I like while flying an aircraft of greater complexity, I end up dropping the AA back to mid-level where the shimmering is slightly more noticeable, shrugging my shoulders, and willing myself to forget about it.

Edit: I should clarify that I'm talking about shimmer in the scenery, while flying.

If you understand your correctly, you don't seem to understand my post at all. I said "looking beyond the Ughh clouds it looks exceptional for a vanilla sim. Does it not?" The clouds are fine except for the textures and I have news for you. If you watch a time lapse video of real cumulus clouds you will find that: "They keep on abruptly redrawing throughout the flight."

Your experience may be different, but then we're all using different hardware and settings. What I'm saying is that I don't see this with my rig and my settings at all, with XP10. I'm seeing perfectly smooth animation with no aliasing and no shimmer. Therefore I think it's fair to say that X-Plane is capable of better performance than what we're seeing here.

This video is simply not a good demo for the sim's performance. In fact, if XP11 actually does look like this on my rig, I won't buy it, because XP10 looks better (in terms of zero aliasing and shimmer) on my current system.

X-Plane 11 hasn't been released and people already start complaining based on a Youtube video. Ridiculous...

They dont look exceptional for a Vanilla sim. Further more what I meant by redrawing was that they suddenly dissappear and reappear which looks very bad.

Bit odd though that apart from the tow truck none of the vehicles actually do something... I mean, the various cars drive towards the plane, stop, just stay there doing absolutely nothing and then disappear again...?

... well, this is not payware such as GSX or so - this is default, and when keeping that fact in mind, it's really okay i think. I mean:

The luggage cart and conveyor seem to move and "interact" accordingly in relation to the plane. The catering trucks do so as well. Not that bad at all i think.

Enjoy flying and happy landings.

For me, X Plane is by far the most promising plattform.

I am sure the clouds / weather will / can be changed by an addon.

So why arguing about such minor details? The point for me is: We need more developers of addons. And I mean high end addons like PMDG or AS16.
