Which windows update setting do you use?

Im in the case of Tonytran, i chose to do manual update install.

 

Win7 is a great OS, i will not upgrade to Win10 cause it's a piece of ######.

 

 

 

 

 

 

To be honest, I'm on W10 and personally I've not found it to be a piece of **** at all. I like it.

The only issue, I've got used to, is that in svchost (netvcs) the process winausrv (related to automatic win updates) consumes about 25% CPU time constantly, after each fresh reboot of the system.

 

I've written about this problem in several threads here...it's related to a change M$ made to the update process in Oct 2016.

 

You can use the Windows task scheduler to only run the winausrv service when the computer is idle, or there are more involved fixes that will stop that behavior.

Yes, I know! I've read that!

I have no problem with killing this process everytime I startup Windows! It just became a habit and works flawlessly! ;-)

I've encountered this problem one time. In this case, I would recommend resetting Windows Update. It may help.

When the above is installed FSX will not run. When removed it runs perfect (on my system).

 

I learned that the above update was bad for FSX in  the link below (glad I learned because until I read that thread, I could not run FSX, it would not even boot up).

I‘ve disabled all updates almost 2 years ago. Haven’t had any problems, other than a process that relates to the Windows auto update and that starts itself automatically and uses 25% of CPU, but I simply stop this process manually. Other than that, the system is still extremely fast (SSD), and all of my sims, addons and games  (XP11, DCS, P3D, Elite Dangerous) install and work flawlessly. I’ve never had such a stable OS!

I too have Windows 7 update turned off and have never had any problems, but, can anybody explain the following phenomena. Ever since my PC upgrade, every time I turn it on I keep getting the following message.   "Your PC uses a processor that is designed for the latest version of Windows. Because the processor is not supported together with the Windows version that you are currently using, your system will miss important security updates."

What the hell is my processor version got to do with it ?. I cant turn the message off, and it pops up at least 2 or 3 times during a session, very annoying.  Anybody else getting something similar happening ?   The processor is an Intel Core I7 7740X @ 4.30Ghz, Kaby Lake 14nm Technology

Some of the latest hardware CPU`s Microsoft are not sending hardware support updates to older OS anymore windows 7 is one of them.

Good new if your staying with windows 7 that annoying upgrade message will be gone after the 16th.
