Upgrading from i5-4670K to i7-4790K - will it be worth it?

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

With the Flightsimlabs A320 out and only around 10 FPS around large airports, I am considering to exchange my i5-4670K (OCed at 4.2 GHz) for a i7-4790K.

Looking at the rest of my setup  (in the signature) - do you think this change would give me considerably more FPS? Would I have to expand the DDRAM as well?

Or am I bottlenecked by my GPU, anyhow?

Looking forward to some input,

Holger

I'm guessing about a 10% increase in performance. Maybe up to 14% if you're lucky.

So at 10 frames per second, perhaps 1 to 1.4 frames per second higher.

A better option would be to dive into your settings and knock those sliders back to a level that's applicable to the capabilities of your system. We don't have to fly around with superb eye candy if it's a slide show.

Traffic, bloom, autogen... reconsider the settings. Graphics card setting too, like AA for example. I know it's a hard pill to swallow, but if your frame rates aren't at a level you're happy with, it's your first option.

Thank you, also for pointing out the website. This is very valuable advice, + 10 % really shows I need to look for another solution.

Best regards,

Holger
