Do I buy P3d V3.4 or wait for V4 ? Please Help

Recommended Posts

Here is my idea.....Forget Prepar3Dv3 and buy Xplane 11....You will save a heap of money in the long run..

Yep all simulators are not perfect, but I am happy walking away from FSX and Prepar3D.

For the next decade people will be asking will Prepar3d go 64bit or not, it's like a black hole, you will get

sucked in and never get out.

Remember Stress Less... Buy XPlane 11..

Robert

X-plane is getting better but I a real year has 4 seasons instead of 1 ....

:) not everywhere in the world. Physics on the other hand apply in Ecuador, no? :) :) (seriously, no offensive sarcasm intended. Maybe i'm just annoyed by the ESP engine after all these years. I like the addons available for FSX/P3D but i start to hate the platform. Too old in rendering , physics and animation aspects.)

LM has been able to take some load from the CPU and put it on the GPU.

Therefore P3D runs better than FSX with the same settings.

And P3D has features that FSX does not have like :

- more autogen

- HDR

- cloud shadows

- terrain shadows

X-Plane 11 looks very impressive. I really want it. But in terms of airliners, with P3D you will have more advantage. Planes like PMDG are fantastic in P3D, an other addons that makes the sim great. X-plane 10 doesn't have reflections and planes looks like plastic, but x-plane 11 will be different.

Both sims are great. I dont like some things about x-plane and some things about P3D. I have to wait x-plane 11 and see if I change my mind.

I've been considering XP for a while now, as I'm just about to do a rebuild and reinstall. But I really think P3D is the way forward for me. I know everyone has their own ideas, but when I look at XP and compare it to my entire sim, with Rex and Orbx scenery and airports, it doesnt come anywhere close IMO. So I will be a convert in a couple of weeks!

You could hear the rumors during Flight Sim Show at Cosford, that P3D v4 (yes, 64 bit) is close and can appear in late January / February 2017.

What's more, Aerosoft A330 and PMDG 747 v3 will be the first compatible addons for P3D v4.

However, these are just rumors, but every rumor has some grain of truth.

Best,

Arek

Well you can't make an informed decision without information, and there's virtually no information on P3D v4. It might come out in November this year, or it might not even come out in 2017. It will probably be 64-bit, because that makes sense.

Another issue is addon compatibility. One example is OrbX. It took them several years to get all their products updated for v2/v3, and they've said v4 updates won't be free. With a move from 32-bit to 64-bit, the transition period will likely be very long, and backwards compatibility will be severely limited.

Also, the first few versions of a new P3D release cycle are usually just terrible. P3D v2 was the worst, and didn't really become functional until v2.5 hit. v3 has been a bit better, but still, now is the best time to buy P3D v3, IMO. It's mature and stable, and the library of compatible addons is huge. VAS usage is an issue, but it can be worked around with the right settings.

As for X-Plane, this might come as a shock to some, but it's actually possible to install more than one sim on the same PC without any negative side-effects other than the disk space used. So you could have both P3D v3 and X-Plane 11 installed. I'm a long time X-Plane and P3D user, and they both have their strengths and weaknesses. I highly doubt X-Plane 11 will catch up to P3D v3 in every way, but then again, there are areas where even X-Plane 10 is already way ahead of P3D. You're doing yourself a disservice if you don't allow yourself to experience both takes on flight simming. If you have some spare money, maybe buy into the AFS 2 early access too, and help their development along. More choices are good for everyone.

Hi all,

There's been a bunch of speculation about our pricing policy for the next version of P3D, likely based on my previous posts back in December.

Let me clarify: we will NOT be charging anything for our products for the next version of P3D. They will be 100% free to use on the new platform. Better still, through the magic of FTXCv3 you won't even need to re-download them.

Please do NOT ask me or any member of the Orbx team about any tech details about any new P3D releases from LM, or why we can make this zero-cost promise. We are under NDA and we will not be pressed into talking about it for obvious reasons. If and when LM give us permission to discuss things publicly then we'll do so.

I just wanted to reassure those with a sizeable investment in Orbx products for P3D that you won't be asked a penny more to upgrade.

First of all a big THANK YOU for this!

Okay, no tech questions... but can you say something about the expected duration to convert ORBX addons from v3 to lets name it v4 compatibility? Will it be a quickie or is it possible that we have to wait as long as with v2 > v3?

On 2/21/2017 at 9:17 AM, John Venema said:

There will be no wait, FTXCv3 will do it all for you. That capability has already been added to the current build of FTXC which you have now.  That's all I can say, please don't push any further ;)

Yes objectfow.dll will need updating but we will strive for it to be as close to a day-1 update as possible.
