Recommended Posts

Hi,Thought some of you might find this helpful. If, like me, you have UT-USA and UT-Canada/Alaska AND/OR Richard Goldstein's Alaska Cinematic Vol 1 installed and have then applied Joshua Robertson's "Six Default Scenery Fixes" (contained in the archive 'six_default_fixes.zip'), then you may wish to follow this link:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...d=29421&mesg_idJoshua's fixes sort out six notable terrain elevation mesh data errors in the following situations:The following is an extract from his read_me.txt file included in the archive:To see the 15,000 ft hole error at Millwood Lake, start at Glenn Winchester airport (2AR6) and fly heading 175 for 6.5 nm.To see the 11,500 ft hole error at Stockton Lake, start at Stockton Mun (MO3) and fly heading 120 for 6 nm.To see the big hill near Memphis error, start at Delta Flying Service Inc airport (MS65) and fly heading 117 for 2 nm. To see the floating runways at Davis airport (KMKO), simply start at Davis airport (KMKO)!To see the Girdwood river 'cliffs', simply start at Girdwood airport (AQY)!To see the 100,000+/60,000 ft chasm/spire, start at Kamarang (SYKM) and fly heading 163 for 6 nm.Check these out to confirm whether or not you have any of these problems before proceeding further.Mike

Hi Mike, talking about fixes, Joachim Buhre alias Jobia has found a couple of 'details' in the way FS allocates certain files. First of all, this can lead to visible lines in particular areas. I.e. the Alpes: http://www.wcm.at/forum/attachment.php?postid=1677535Or Mt. Rainier: http://www.wcm.at/forum/attachment.php?postid=1677536Also, in particular areas, only a relatively small number of files are allocated to tiles (don't know whether this is the right way of putting it?) and this is apparently due to the LCLookup.bgl. Default LCLookup.bgl: http://www.wcm.at/forum/attachment.php?postid=1677530Jobia's modified LCLookup.bgl: http://www.wcm.at/forum/attachment.php?postid=1677532 Jobia's original comments (in German) can be found here: http://www.wcm.at/forum/showthread.php?thr...ursteuerdateienhttp://www.wcm.at/forum/showthread.php?thr...+LandclasspatchThe updates are available at Jobia's homepage www.jobia.de and basicly consist of the 2 following files: http://jobia0.homepage.t-online.de/LCLOOKUP_BGL Patch.ziphttp://jobia0.homepage.t-online.de/Terrainmask_patch.zipIn case, please backup your original files before modification... :-) Hope you don't mind that I added this to your thread, Mike. Thanks, good luck and kind regards Jaap

Hi Jaap,"Hope you don't mind that I added this to your thread"....not at all. In fact the more the merrier :)Now there's a coincidence! http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...id=29335&page=2However, I didn't know about the LCLOOKUP.BGL - thanks a lot! Here's another useful link:http://www.google.com/language_toolsJust highlight the German text from the info.htm in each of Joachim's archives and paste it in the Translate text: box on the above page.Better still, highlight and copy each of the links provided by Jaap and paste in the Translate a web page: section. A bit rough around the edges, but does give you the jist of what the author was trying to convey.Cheers and best regards!Mike

Bumpin' Uppps, didn't realize it was common knowledge already... :-) I forgot to mention that Jobia's fixes are specially of interest for those who use LC addons like Ruud Faber's FScene and Burkhard Renk's MyWorld. I guess it also helps with FS Genesis' LCs but couldn't cofirm this. Thanks for the 'Six Fixes' and allowing me to add to your thread, Mike :-) Good luck and kind regards Jaap

Once more before it disappears into the maws of the Avsim forum page hierarchy ;) It does seem to have attracted some interest and there will likely be others who have missed it.Mike

Hi everybody By coincidence, Mike 'Crachuan' mentioned that he has the 'All Roads of Europe'(AROE) package. Here too, Jobia confirmed a potential problem. This time it concerns a possible memory leak (AFAIK, regardless whether it's JustFlight's or FSQ's version). The closer one is to coastal regions, the quicker a CTD will occur. That said, this one can build up fairly slow and depends on various circumstances; i.e. whether the fps is set to unlimited or not, the amount of system memory, etc. On my end it takes 1-2 hours. Coincidently, just one day later, an Avsim user posted exactly this prob. http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...11689&mode=fullI'll copy and paste Mike's reply how to solve the issue. ***snip*** >>Try this:Click on the Addon Scenery folder and create a new folder called: LC_RREuropeClick on LC_RREurope and create a Scenery folderSo, the path to this folder will be Flight Simulator 9Addon SceneryLC_RREuropeSceneryDON'T CREATE A TEXTURE FOLDERNow, navigate to Flight Simulator 9SceneryRREuropeSceneryand locate the file: europe.bgl Cut and paste this file into: Flight Simulator 9Addon SceneryLC_RREuropeSceneryBelieve it or not this file contains LandClass data! Now, start up FS9 and activate the LC_RREurope folder and then move it to a position below Roads and Rivers of Europe. The following is an extract from my Scenery.cfg file:(Area.044) <------- N.B. square bracketsTitle=LC_RREuropeActive=TRUELayer=44Local=Addon SceneryLC_RREuropeRemote=Required=FALSE(Area.045)Title=ScotflightLandClassActive=TRUELayer=45Local=D:Program FilesVisualFlightScotflightScotflightLandClassRemote=Required=FALSE(Area.046)Title=Roads and Rivers of EuropeActive=FALSELayer=46Local=SceneryRREuropeRemote=Required=FALSE(Area.047)Title=Addon SceneryActive=TRUELayer=47Local=Addon SceneryRemote=Required=FALSEClose down FS9 and then restart to allow it to rebuild its indexes. Go fly and see whether the memory leak is still present.<< ***snap*** Here's an 'old' Avsim thread on the issue: http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...66991&mode=fullPls note, the last post (Jeroen's), apparently is an alternative method. It differs from what Mike mentioned. Mike's description is 'the Jobia method'. :-) Here's Jobia's original post (in German): http://www.wcm.at/forum/showthread.php?thr...OE+SpeicherleckImportant sidenote: In case somebody has other European LCs (like FScene), Joachim mentions there might be problems when they're located above the AROE entries. If so, perhaps consider moving those European LC-entries to beneath the AROE entries? Hope this helps, good luck and kind regards Jaap

Hi Jaap,All these links are gradually taking on the form of a spider's thread...LOL!2 minor corrections:* I own Roads&Rivers of Europe and not 'All Roads of Europe' but, accepting they are essentially the same, have implemented the fix as described.* As far as I am aware, FScene is not a LandClass product. You won't find an entry in your Scenery.cfg file. It (Ruud Faber) provides excellent replacement seasonal ground textures. His collection now has worldwide coverage. Thanks again for your input, Jaap. It has been most helpful.Best regards,Mike

"To see the 100,000+/60,000 ft chasm/spire, start at Kamarang (SYKM) and fly heading 163 for 6 nm."I didn't fix this because I believe I was the first to find it and made it known to the flight sim community. I found it while looking for Angel Falls down there in South America.I consider it one of the wonders of the flight sim world!Microsoft should put more of these in flight sim for us to find. I fly out of KDET alot and one day there was a building fire at a factory close to the airport. I only saw it once and haven't seen it since. I figured it could have been triggered by day and time but that seems a little too simple for Microsoft if they planned on hiding these scenery effects within the sim and didn't want people to figure it out because they wanted the suprise factor.I can imagine things like flashing red emergency lights at an intersection where there was wreck, boat fire or other uncommon scenery events that pop up and expire in the sim using code we can't figure out.

Hi Mike, you're totally right, of course FScene isn't Landclass. I wanted to write MyWorld and already made exactly the same mistake in LCLookup post. You can wack me if I do it a third time! :-) I would also like to thank you for explicitly mentioning the Roads & Rivers of Europe package again. Indeed, although essentially the same product, they do have different names. Needless to mention that I'm glad things worked out so well on your end, Mike. Lets hope the thread did the same for a couple of others too. Cheers and kind regards Jaap
