Looks like this is going to be one of those good-news stories that never gets any traction or notice. Too bad, really, because this new Bell 412 from Jordan Moore is probably the best FS heli add-on ever to hit the streets.RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Santiago de Chile

I got that 412 last night and its wicked! Im flying it all over the place. They really have done a great job on it. Particualry convincing are the flapping rotor blades that you see when you are in the VC and the engines are starting/stopping.Chopper threads dont get that much attention at Avsim because I feel this is a predominantly a light fixed-wing & heavy-iron forum. Im sure a good number of Avsimmers have choppers but (like me admittedly) only have the odd spurt of rotorheadism strike now and then but I hasten to say that this 412 is exceptional and urge any cyclichead out there to grab it :)

I only have a few helicopters in my inventory and this is definately a keeper. Thank you for pointing it out. Although, I don't quite understand something. In the cockpit there are these red circles that say personal edition. Does this mean you have to pay money to get those red circles removed? What does the non-personal edtion have that this personal addition doesn't?Guess I need to read the readme files....Kevin

I think he put it there to keep it from being hijacked by the freeware abusers like FSPlanet. Just click on the red circle and it turns into a nicely rendered rotor/engine tach gauge.I was at an I/ITSEC conference in Orlando a few years ago...it's a huge trade show put on by modeling and simulation vendors in the defense industry--that means contractors vying for kabillions of dollars of US defense money in an age where simulation is really coming into its own. And you know what I saw on display in at least 20 different booths there? The PMDG B-737 being used to showcase a hardware device, display system, etc. So I can't blame the developers of our low-revenue toys for wanting a piece of that big commercial pie if their "topping" ends up being used by others, so to speak.CheersBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Santiago de Chile

Umm I've got to be doing something wrong here, but when increase the throttle (collective), the rotor stops, if I pull it back, it speeds up again... I'm confused. Anyone?

Ryan, it sounds like you don't have the throttles pushed all the way up. Throttles are not the same as collective...throttles control engine speed...collective controls (in a rough sense) rotor blade AOA. The default FS helis don't really model throttle and core turbine RPM effects. One of the many hidden beauties of this gift from Jordan Moore. On the handle of the collective pop-up, there's a "+" icon for spooling up the #1, #2, or both (center icon) engines. You want the engine and rotor RPM at 100% before trying to fly. If the rotor is turning, but the turbines are at idle (~70%), the rotor will come to a screeching halt when you apply collective. With the throttles up, the Bell 412 shows its mettle as a fairly powerful helicopter.CheersBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-V L-300Santiago de Chile

Thanks a lot Guys. We appreciate the positive comments. The 412 is free, but it is a correct statement about the red warning gauge. Click it, and the tach is underneath. I have done this not so much because of anything that goes on specifically in the flight simulation community, but because I too have seen too much of my own work, and others showing up at trade shows, and being used by commercial interests (training companies, technology firms, etc) without any notice, permission, or intent to compensate. Sometimes passing the work off as their own. This helicopter might a little intimidating for those that are not familiar with technical/systems oriented add-ons (for example the Aeroworx KingAir). There is a lot of procedure to getting the Hovercontrol 412 started and shutdown properly. On top of that, there is the "how does a helicopter fly" thing, that can also be tough on a new pilot just starting out on the helicopter side of the hobby. But of course, anyone is welcome to come get it, and give it a try, and if you learn a few things about helicopters, or it sparks your interest at all, we'll certainly be pleased with that. It is definitely a "use the checklist" type of flight simulator addon. The Hovercontrol 412 features:True Twin Turbine management (PT6T Twinpac)Accurate fuel, weight, and endurance numbers.Custom avionics, and many systems, (not generic gauges).26 combinations of models/paintjobsHere is the kneeboard checklist and reference for those that are curious, but might not be interested enough to actually download/install it.Kneeboard Reference:http://www.hovercontrol.com/aircraft/hc412/index.htmlKneeboard Checklist:http://www.hovercontrol.com/aircraft/hc412/checklists.html

Thank you Jordan, every once in a while I go on a copter kick, and really enjoy flying your birds. I am looking to get a nice joystick to fly this one! Sweet!!
