I am, gold ticket holder, SC no 5505. Star Citizen now has in excess of 1.5 million members and has raised $129,348,836 so far. It's set to be one the most amazing games of the century. Also the entry requirements only need one to purchase a basic package, all ships will be available from within the game (persistant universe) and can be bought with credits earned therein. A basic package starts at $54 and will give you 1,000 uec(credits) and access to the PU, for an extra 5,000 credits use this code:- STAR-V9M6-PG9H. Squadron 42 is now a stand alone package and has to be purchased seperately.

It's still in alpha, and plays like an A rated game already. Everyone is waiting with baited breath for the release (very close now) of v3 which will give you gameplay as seen in the video above.

I also participated in the funding of SC. But I only try the currently available stuff from time to time, as I do not have the patience to download 20GB again and again and again. So, currently I do not have it installed, maybe when the next big thing is released, I am back. But I really hope that all those things they want to are included sometimes into SC, the potential of this game is simply enormous.

2.6 is the next update, followed by 3.0, I would wait for 3.0 that's when the fun really starts and you will start to see just what SC is all about.

I've been a backer and tester since 2013.   There is a free fly for a  week from Oct 22 to Oct 31, so that anyone who signs up (free) will be able to play the game(free) and fly most if not all ships that are ready to fly.   There is also absolutely no reason to use anyone's referral code to do it either.

The "add on ships" are not sold outright but are gifts for thanks as being a supporter, like public television subscription gifts  All ships will be available to earn in game without additional cost to the player.

Considering the virtually unlimited funds, the delays and slow progress sets a definite negative precedence in my book.

I am interested in the single player portion of the game but only when it is done and has a nice, lengthy, bugfree, proper campaign....

so 3 years from now essentially. <sic>

I sold my fleet two years ago and made a pretty hefty profit.  I decided to bail after scope creep dominated the design vs. actually building the basic foundation of the game.

There is no way this game is coming out with every feature promised.

I've been watching progress but haven't looked much closer than forums. I have Elite Dangerous but I haven't played for 4 months as I got totally bored with it, it is a massive grind to achieve anything and some of the random outcomes are ridiculous.

If SC avoids those traps I'll give it a go.

Elite Dangerous player here but watching Star Citizen development closely. Once it gets to release state, I will most probably pick it up and enjoy the two finest space simulators around.

I got involved with Space Invaders or whatever it's called. I got carried away by the enthusiasm of my fellow clan members. After spending £200 on various 'ships' I suddenly came to my senses. "Wait up, I don't even like space games!" said I. I wrote to the woman in charge of subscriptions etc. and got my money back. Phew! Talk about the Great Escape.

So it's still in Alpha eh?

I also was an original contributor and got excited about the original vision (which has changed and re-changed many times). Over the years I have gone from excited, to interested, to puzzled and now disillusioned. At this point in time I do not have it on any of my machines. I have never seen an undertaking so in need of knowledgeable and competent business management.

I was a backer from when they first setup their own website / funding ability - bought in with a $50 ship package, and at that time it got you both SC and Squadron 42 (no longer the case, but you're 'grandfathered in' as a early backer).

I successfully managed to avoid purchasing any other ships. I consider the money I spent to be fair value for what I'll eventually (hopefully!) get, and to be fair, I've already put more time into it in it's alpha forms over the past couple of years than I have other AAA games that these days, cost even more.

Back when those stretch goals were stacking up one after another, I'd already grown pretty wary about the incredible level of feature creep that was taking place. I really feel that at some point, they should of said 'enough is enough' and quite promising stuff!

I read a very interesting article not that long ago (can't find it at the moment) that detailed a lot of the issues that were and are taking place. Their choice of Cryengine turned out to introduce a lot of delays, since there were virtually no experienced developers available at the time. They also had to do a lot of out-sourcing initially, and the fact that they had teams spread all over the place didn't help. It sounds like a lot of those troubles are past now, and it seems like development is ramping up - looks like interesting times ahead with v3 on the horizon.

Way they're going, it's not going to be released as long as they can sucker people into paying hundreds of dollars for "backing it".

And when that well of seeming eternity dries up, they'll release what's there at the time, do some bugfixes for a few months, and silently close shop, taking the hundred million dollar + in profits with them.
