Noob Needs Advice

I got tired of tweaking, got tired of the frustrations and most of all, more time taken to get it to run right vs. actual flight.

 

I understand this perfectly. I'm currently a point release behind in my P3D install, and as such I haven't booted it up in some time. I know that I'll have to spend an evening updating stuff before I can get around to flying, if I want to bring it up to date. At some point, it just gets tiring. It's so much easier to just fire up X-Plane and go flying.

 

For example, I can see from my Steam panel on my laptop that X-Plane is waiting to update, likely to 10.51. I know that when I do so, it'll take a very minimal amount of time to download and update, and then I'll simply be able to start up the sim and go flying. It makes life simple, and I'm starting to value simplicity. :smile:

Looks like Thrustmaster has a nice little throttle coming out soon too!

 

(This is nice because my CH throttle is wigging out from time to time and someday my 10+ yr old MS ffb2 stick will die)

Price is VERY reasonable (129 USD).  My ffb2 sidewinder was 106 USD in 2003.

Well, I settled on the Thrustmaster T Flight Hotas X, purchased from Microcenter for $50.  I figured since there was a $10 difference between the Logitech and this, I liked that the TM had the throttle quadrant.  I got it set up and flew a test flight with it, very nice.  Now, If I could only figure out why the default C172 is all over the place on the ground.  I no sooner apply some throttle to it and it was to run right off the runway.  It took a lot of right rudder to keep it straight.  I switched over to the L5 and that was even worse as it wanted to run in circles.  Is there something I am doing wrong or is my stick not configured correctly?  When I run a test of the stick through TM's panel, everything is fine.  While configuring and calibrating in XP, the axis indicators are not jittery or otherwise thrown off by anything.

 

I can still fly, but again, the aircraft are all over the place.  Are there possible fixes in XP to help tone down the dynamics?
