Motherboard won't boot after bios update

Unfortunately having real problems overclcking after this update. Haven't quite given up yet but am starting to think about upgrading my trusty i52500k.

 

I'm thinking of the i56600k as it's apparently a good gaming overclocker. As it's also a 1155 socket will it work smoothly on my z68 pro 3 board, or should I think about a new board as well?

6600k will only function with Z170 based boards. LGA 1151.

 

Have you considered downloading a fresh version of the BIOS and flashing again, in case there were issues with your first attempt? Follow the instructions exactly.

 

Have you read the release notes that came with the BIOS? Is it the correct BIOS for your board and OS?

 

It shouldn't render overclocking harder, if anything it should have improved.

 

I would say your first attempt was abortive.

 

Why are you reluctant to reset the CMOS? It's easy enough.

Well just remember that if you have a free version of windows 10, any motherboard or other large change will probably force you to purchase a new copy.....

Yes, they'll get their pound of flesh somehow.

 

I think it might be a combination of incredibly different voltage calibrations in the new BIOS (I finally managed to get a stable 4.0GHz overclock last night with -0.9v), and the fact that I haven't replaced the thermal paste in 5 years.

 

But it really is about time I upgraded, so the missus might have her Xmas pressie decision made early this year....
