Kind of interesting how the tail section broke off so cleanly on "touchdown". No wonder the only survivors are usually seated in the last row.

Pretty good landing really :-) he didnt even bounce. Mind you slight red face arriving at the dock minus the tail :-)Peter

As Staffan has already pointed out, I think it should be reinforced that the flight shown was a deliberate test flight to evaluate hard landings. Not a commercial flight, and no passengers were aboard.

Yes, it was a test flight, but they messed up nonetheless. Airspeed and rate of descent dropped a bit too much and safe liimits were exceeded. Note how the middle of the fuselage buckles after the tail comes off and the downward force of the horizontal stabilizer on the rear section is lost sending the nose plummetting to earth.

He touched down at 17 feet per second. Thats harder than most Navy landings.

This was a certification test flight, they "messed up" deliberately to see what the aircraft would do at that sort of a load. I've seen this video before. They also broke the nosegear assembly and ground the leg into the runway - watch the sparks.
