REX Worldwide Airports HD 1st Impressions

But, after a month you are used to the new textures and then what? To me it seems like it is just a short term improvement...

Really not trying to be rude, but, I have to ask..in what place do you experience the buildings and airstrips being replaced every month?

Change them. We give so many choices.

Also... if one isn't using REX5, then they will see the same default textures at airports for every flight. REX5 not only gives us better looking custom textures, a bevy of different textures to mix and match - and if one chooses they can do so on every flight.

Plus, it's just too easy to do!  Launch REX5 (Worldwide Airports HD), set what you want, and then launch the Sim right from REX5 or close it and launch as usual.

I'm presently writing a guide to explain how FSX/P3D Payware/Freeware Scenery and AFCADs work in the sim, and how, when and where REX custom textures would be applied.  I should have it done by the end of the weekend, and I'll make it available here.

Best wishes.

Most likely he is referring  to the fact  that after  a month he  finds  the looking  of it is boring  and  than  changes  it by himself not automatically

Well, that goes for everything you buy for a sim. If that is how you look at it, you better not buy any addon at all because you will get used to everything at one moment. I myself invested quite some money in scenery and I still enjoy it. Even though I may have gotten used to it, I still enjoy what I've got. The way you put it ASN is a short term improvement and so is Orbx scenery A2A planes, REX textures, PMDG planes, and so on.

It is a bit of an odd way to look at things IMHO. I bought FTX Trees HD a long time ago, which is compared to other addons a small addon with a limited improvement. Have I gotten used to it? Yes. Do I still enjoy it? Yes! Was it a short term improvement? No, because it has improved my sim up to today and will do so for (maybe) years to come. Heck, I even frequently think while flying 'Man, those trees look great, better than default'.

I won't buy this REX addon but if you get it, it won't be a short term improvement. An improvement stays an improvement, no matter if you get used to it. Remove the improvement and then see if it was an improvement or not... If you remove it and think 'Boy, that sucks' then it was an improvement and worth the money.

Hi bthiago,

Thank you for your kind words!

If you install a payware airport, it will overwrite REX, however if the developer relied upon any items from the default SDK they would remain REX.

Hi bthiago,

Thank you for your kind words!

Shouldn't that actually read 'it will overrule/override REX"...? Because no payware airport addon will ever 'overwrite' default files: it will only use its own ones. Default files will remain untouched and unused and hence, if you installed REX airport files, they will also stay untouched and unused. (Just a minor thing but I thought I'd post this to prevent future confusion... Please correct me ASAP if I am wrong!)

I think it is overall a very good product. UI es very good and texture options are many and great. No doubt in time it will get much better with upcoming updates/upgrades.

I haven't had the chance to look at many airports, but found that KLAS (don't know if it is just me) shows a mix between Rex and default textures, so it looks kind of awkward. Maybe is just this one, not sure.

KSAN and KMIA however, look fantastic in my opinion, way much better than default and much better than Zinertek's.

So far I have no issues regarding ORBX scenery/airports.

Regarding FPS, I run FSX on a laptop configured by the book following Nick's so called Bible recommendations, and I see no performance hit using HD textures so far, at least nothing noticeable.

To sum up, I like this add on very much, and I'm sure it will get better.

Sorry for any mistakes. English is not my native language.

Regards.

The only thing I miss is a random texture inject function. I really don't care about selecting all the different textures - I just want something new once in a while.

100% with you, would be a really nice-to-have addition IMO too.

Cheers,

Edit: BTW, really satisfied with REX5. Met my expectations and really enhances my sim experience, as it was for REX4 TD+SC.

That would be a bit odd though: in real life buildings aren't replaced once in a while either. And it is impossible to assign different textures to similar buildings on different airports: that would require a manual change for each and every airport and that would turn every airport in some sort of payware airport. This addon is a simple way to upgrade the general look of things a bit: that's all.

And it is impossible to assign different textures to similar buildings on different airports

I meant more a random theme generator like in REX4 TD, not sure anyway if applicable, indeed not an expert here.

That could be possible, I suppose: shouldn't be too hard to implement. I was mainly referring to "I just want something new once in a while."

To be perfectly clear - By random I mean an one click option to install textures with having to select which one for each category. I don't care about what textures are being used, as long as it gets rid of the default ones.
