FSX Boxed Deluxe crashes with SP2 installed

Recommended Posts

Going through a reinstall of FSX and I am progressively installing the Service Packs. FSX Stock runs fine, FSX with SP1 runs better but once I install SP2 I get an APPCRASH on startup, unknown module.

If I uninstall SP2 it fires up just fine.

I have removed my FSX.cfg and allowed it to build a new one - Same Issue

I have changed WideView to True and applied the HiMemFix - Same Issue

I have even moved the same UIAutomationCore.dll from my previous install which worked fine - Same Issue

Any suggestions?

This is a new install of FSX Deluxe or Standard and no Acceleration?  Have you added any addons that require SP2

before it was installed (or attempted to install)?

Charlie Aron

Awaiting the new Microsoft Flight Sim and the purchase of a new system.  Running a Chromebook for now!

A reinstall, Deluxe was previously installed on this computer. No addons as part of this install however the previous install did have addons. These were removed via the control panel.

I just used my old FSX Config and it made it passed the initial loading screen but now I cannot select Free Flight unless I uncheck DX10 Preview.

Making progress.....

The dll.xml is the one of the first things loaded when you first startup FSX.  Make sure there is no dll.xml and/or exe.xml in the same folder as where your fsx.cfg is located.  If it is in the folder, it will load and probably not find any module to load.  When you uninstall/reinstall FSX, the dll.xml is not removed as it is not a default file.  When you reinstall FSX, the fsx.cfg will be overwritten but the dll.xml remains thus creating problems.

I would also remove the uiautomationcore.dll.  It really is not needed as it is a placebo.  If it does work, it fixes only one FSX crash, repeated right clicking on a VC at least 19 times.

Best regards,

Jim

Thanks for your response Jim. My previous searches on this issue yielded many replies from you which described having to remove the xml.dll, so I did. No change though.

I'll remove the UIAuto as well.

When you have an unknown faulting module, it is difficult to find the cause of your crashes.  Sometimes the Event Viewer or Windows Error Reporting gives us some info on what is causing your issue and sometimes not.  My unknown faulting modules usually moved to a StackHash or ntdll.dll error and those were caused by a bad overclock.  It could be your case too.  Looking for a module that doesn't exist or a texture or .dll that might have been put into quarantine because you had your anti-virus program running when installing SP2, could also cause it.  There is absolutely a ton of possibilities.

Since we discussed this before, then I suspect you posted in the FSX forum thinking you would get more assistance.  I'll move this back so maybe someone visiting there knows a solution.

Best regards,

Jim
