ATC- FSX

Recommended Posts

Hello Avsim Members.

I'm really stuck on something on FSX ATC. You see FSX has automatic text and voice ATC without needing a real controller.

So what I wanted to ask is that when I request ground clearance for Take off or something it says something like this

' D-33GD with Yankee request east departure.'

The underlined word ' Yankee  is the word I dont understand. Can you tell me what it is used for and which word do I have to say, etc. Lima, Golf, Tango, Romeo...

HELP!

Thanks     :help:    :p0503:

It's the latest ATIS (Automated Terminal Information Service) phonetic code. ATIS contains airport weather, runway/approach in use and pertinent NOTAMS. ATIS is updated hourly or as needed with changing conditions.

'Yankee' is the ATIS code.  Find the ATIS frequency on a chart or somewhere and dial it into the radio and you'll hear a recording of the current weather, active runway, etc.  The code comes at the beginning and at the end of the recording.  You tell ATC you have Information 'Yankee' or some other letter (e.g Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, etc.) so they know you've got the current information.  In the real world you might hear NOTAMS, restrictions, or other information such as "mowers to the right of the runway".

You could ask for the ATIS frequency.  They'll give you the frequency or tell you if it's offline.  Or, you could say 'with the ATIS' instead of 'Information ____'.  Should be okay.
