Southern BC

Recommended Posts

I am thinking of a scenic exploration of Southern British Columbia.. starting in Penticton, heading east towards Cranbrook, and then north along the Columbia River with an opportunity to skip over to Banff and Jasper for some early skiing..

Beautiful scenery all the way, courtesy of Orbx PNW and NRM..

Any interest?

and download a copy of the first map (BC Highway Map) offered.

Just be sure not to use current weather data  , mid-late November generally isn't that great for wandering around the region.

OK - will set it up.

Also agree with the weather recommendation, lets go for clear skies.

November is the rainiest month of the year in BC

.. but we do have the odd sunny day, and that would be the forecast for Saturday.

Great idea! I've been thinking of a tour of BC myself.

From Invermere to Banff, follow Highway 93.

It makes some 90 degree turns, but it is the only safe way to cross

the Rockies at this latitude.  Just stay at 6000 feet.

Having flown the route, a couple of thoughts, you need to make 150 knots for

this to work, so the C182 is marginal..  I am switching to the Comanche and having it tuned up for the flight.

Secondly, with all the twists and turns, this is becoming a long flight,

so we may just decide to overnight in Invermere and pick it up the following

week for the Rockies crossing.. we'll see how that goes.

In that case, I'll add an Alberta episode where we can visit some cattle country

and stop for a decent barbecue dinner with homecooked beans..

So us P3d guys are out?

We have talked about switching to a mixed multiplayer platform FSX/P3D in the future, so stay tuned

A Story about BC's Southern Interior.

When I started study at the University of British Columbia, the first guy I met outside of my new roommate (and he was from Kelowna) went by the name of **** Popoff, he said he was from the Interior (having just come from Ontario, I had no idea what he was talking about) and then added he was a Doukhobor (again I had no idea what he was talking about, ment absolutely nothing to me at the time). He was from Grand Forks, again I had no idea where that was. Turns out half the town of Grand Forks are named Popoff....or some sort of @#$%"off".

Take a look at who wrote this article (name at bottom) from the same website.

http://www.usccdoukhobors.org/historical/aboutdoukhobors.htm

The guy was an usher at my wedding and was joined by friends from, you guessed it, the Interior, from Rossland, Trail, Castlegar, Montrose, Nelson (Best man was from here)...I am woven at the hip with the rich history of BC's Interior.

A scenic wonderland, an outdoor paradise for all seasons.
