FSUIPC - combine two controls on a single axis ?

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks,

I'd like to improve my braking action by making it variable by assigning it to an axis instead of a button... I have a single axis available and would like to combine both the left and right variable brake to this single axis... For differential braking - I'll leave that on my button assignments... This would be used simply to slow the plane during landing roll out by applying equal amounts to both pedals... Is this possible in FSUIPC ???

Thanks...

Regards,
Scott

I'm prettty sure that BRAKES are an on/off function. You could assign BRAKES to a axis and they would be equally applied when the axis is triggered but, as I said, they are either on or off. You could also assign the parking brake. Other than seeing a different on screen message, the effect is the same - both brakes are on or off.

SPAD.neXt https://www.fsgs.com/forum/ allows assigning axis even to functions basically only being on/off. The Cessna Trimwheel is such an on/off device which worked pretty erratically for me until I assigned an axis to it. Workes perfect now, even without that well-known Prepar3d bug where you have to turn the wheel after reboot and before starting the sim.

You might try it for the toe brakes. I would expect it to work too, but I didn't try this myself yet. However, you may find help in the forum (or by contacting the author), if required.

Kind regards, Michael

Yes, absolutely.  FSUIPC will allow you to send an axis input to as many as four separate controls using the menu.

Open FSUIPC in the sim using the Add-ons menu drop-down, select the axis assignment tab, move the axis control you want to assign so that FSUIPC detects it, click "Send to FS as normal axis" in the Type of Action Required box, then put a check mark in the first checkbox and select Axis Left Brake Set from the list in the box to the right of that, then put a checkbox in the next one down, and select Axis Right Brake Set in the list.  That will send the axis input to both left and right brake controls.  Alternatively you could select "Send direct to FS Calibration" and in the two boxes select Left Brake and Right Brake respectively, then set the calibration as desired in the joystick calibration tab.

Braking in FSX and P3d are basically linear rather than on/off. If your pedals are calibrated correctly, smooth breaking should be possible without any additional axis.

Hi Folks,

Hah - I was on that screen Bob posted - but I didn't see options for brakes - I think I didn't have one of the radio buttons selected - let me look again...

I don't have pedals (actually I do but I can't use them comfortably with my desk so they're unplugged and gathering dust) - I use the CH Pro Throttle which has a thumb driven micro joystick for a rudder... I want to use the "throttle" slider on my joystick for brakes since I have a stand alone throttle...

Thanks one and all for the help and your insights - greatly appreciated !!!

*** Bob - I sorely miss that fantastic Tin Mouse of yours in P3D - had countless hours of enjoyment in FS9 with it... She was a jewel... Nice to see you still around...

Regards,

Scott
