No ORBX or aircraft add-on beats the thrill of IL-2 Sturmovik or DCS World

As an FSX guy, I recently downloaded the XP10 demo to check out whether now is the time to invest in XP or transition from FSX to P3D. I was blown away by what I saw in the XP10 demo. Just beautiful. And, it ran well on my older system. It even out performed my FSX setup with GEX + UTX + REX + FSGENESIS.

 

Last night, I downloaded the XP11 demo. Definitely slower (which, I understand is due to it being beta). But, flying at KSEA during the day at 8-12fps, I didn't see the big difference between the XP10 and XP11 demos as far as rendering. What should I be looking for that will make me say, "Wow! This is a lot better than XP10"?

 

The new user interface is okay, but I do prefer the XP10 demo interface because of the access I had to all the the little details. (Granted, it took me a couple hours to digest all the details I had access to.)

 

Anyway, I'm still trying to decide whether to purchase XP11. This forum has been helpful as I mull over my decision.

that is completely down to the aircraft.  In good payware planes, this is really great

Ok, was afraid of renaming the .exe files, but I'll give it a try.

 

Just rename XP10 exe and leave XP11 exe as it is...if memory serves me right, if you rename XP11 exe, next time you do an update, the installer will create a new X-Plane.exe.

 

Xplane 10 will not be updated any further so renaming it will pose no problems.

 

I didn't see the big difference between the XP10 and XP11 demos as far as rendering. What should I be looking for that will make me say, "Wow! This is a lot better than XP10"?

The rendering difference is HUGE! That's what got me excited. The plane reflection look amazing and the haze gives this sim a more realistic feel, but at the moment XP 11 BETA is just a test platform.

 

*Many of my XP 10 payware airplanes will need to be updated.

 

*The clouds are just "horrible" and the performance is worse. SMP v4 should help, but I'm more excited about xEnviro.

 

*ATC needs work.

 

*Too many graphic issues that need to be resolved.

 

*Controller problems.

 

*UI needs more options.

 

*No G1000 yet.

 

and much more.....

 

It has a long way to go, but I'm confident that XP 11 will eventually be my sim of choice.

Can any1 test BC and Alaska and tell me if the tiles are showing up ? I downloaded that area @work but its plain water

I doubt it because Ben said Sydney render is very bad and its going bonkers, but I am not getting a lot of them especially in North America / Canada , anything below 60N file a report

 

This is what I currently have downloaded.

 

My experience from this beta 11 in the beginning was woooooo, very nice... But after some time experiencing this is what i notice:

- GSync doenst work with this demo, i notice flashes on both lights and textures with GSync on.
- The night sky is ugly as hell, specially the moon glow that spreads a pixelazation circle all around it.
- I notice some stutters with heavier aircrafts with medium graphic settings in the default airport.
- Joystick calibration doenst work well if you have other USB controllers attached.
- Clouds are the weakest point in all the environment, they look a little better than XP10 but still ages from other default clouds in the competition.

Nevertheless the experience was positive, im waiting on flyinside XP11 support to decide if im going to buy this, the goal is VR off course

They are calling this a beta, which means that they want feedback on the default aircrafts as well.

Does anyone know how to remove the "shimmering" in the scenery? Slider is all the way to the right. Does xp11 need some nvidia settings?

I think this is a limitaiton of the render-engine. Same problem as in XP10. I fear as of yet there will be no way to cure this :-(

 

Also the annoying Z-fighting issues are still present.
