They still haven't addressed the issue where Saitek throttles don't work with the "throttle" assignment.

Ah, bummer! Was hoping they would fix that asap.

I got my Saitek X-55 throttle working okay by calibrating it while in the VC of the Cirrus. Wouldn't work if i did it from the splash screen. Give that a try.

What issue are you having with this exactly? You've mapped throttle to the axis but it just doesn't do anything?

If so, that's may not be related to Saitek but any controller. In most cases, this is because throttle is also assigned to another axis a different controller. I had an Xbox gamepad connected and did not realize that one of the axis lower in the list of that controller also had throttle mapped to it. Changing this to none fixed it for me.

I've gone through every step I can think of to get the throttle to work. I can assign it to individual engines (1234) and that works but if I try t assign it to just THROTTLE , nothing. If there's a conflict I can't find it. My yoke and rudder pedals work fine.

UPDATE: The conflict has something to do with my Saitek yoke. I unplugged the yoke and my rudder pedals and at that point my throttle worked. I plugged in the rudder pedals and it worked. Once I plugged in the yoke, the throttle no longer worked. I went through every assignment but can't nail down where the conflict is.

jcomm i assume you are from my country if you are enjoying LPPT :) can you shoot some pic from there please, just to see how LPPT looks like in XP11 vanilla. Thank you

Here you go :-)

It's odd but once again I only flew in XP11 this evening. Just some 30 minutes or so because I don't have much time but somehow the XP icon on my desktop seems more tempting than the P3D icon. There actually is much to like in XP. I won't list it all because I don't want to repeat myself.

But I think I now know what my problem is with XP and P3D: I am comparing them. But you can't really compare them. They are too different. Yes, they are both about flying but that's about it. I think that when I simply use either of them without thinking about the other and making mental comparisons, I can enjoy both.

I really enjoyed my XP session because I focused on what I like in XP11 and not on what I miss or don't like. And after using it this way I can imagine myself using XP11 a lot in the future. Maybe it will help some others to appreciate XP11 a bit more. (Or P3D for that matter.) As it is now I am having more fun again with the good things that XP11 offers instead of the good things that P3D offers. It's great being able to have both.

Sorry for being such a fickle &@($* but I just wanted to post this. ;)

Nicely said Jeroen. Resonates with me. After being on the ESP platform since FS9, Prepar3D since 1.0 and XP since 10.30 that describes how it feels. Would a sim combine the virtues of both it would be a big step forward. Let's enjoy what we have.

i agree. although ive been getting some strange CTDs realted to the nvidia driver in both xp10 and 11. Maybe xp doesnt like OC gpu? in p3d I never have crashes , ever.  not complaining just a little annoying when you are on final and it crashes.

Well said.

I find it very interesting to read the comments from people who are really getting into XP because of the 11 beta release . From the time I've spent with the beta so far (which isn't as much as I'd like), I really see so much of what was already great about XP10. There's some extra bits here and there, but a lot of my experience is still the same goodness that I was already enjoying.

My own personal notes on the beta thus far:

  • PBR is absolutely wonderful. The reflection on metal at various times of day, or by different ambient light sources, are on occasion enough to make you pause your flight and just pan around the external view for awhile.

  • Performance is decent for me. I feared worse based on what I'd read, but if they can optimize from what I'm already getting, I'll be a very happy person. It's hard to tell the impact from PBR since you can't turn it off, but it much not have too much of an effect, since I'm largely seeing similar frame-rates to XP10.

  • That new 172 is pretty darn nice for a default aircraft, and that's likely an understatement. I use the default 172 in my laptop install of XP10 that I used for building Gateway airports. While I mostly zoom around outside checking scenery details, I end up seeing the inside of that 172 *a lot*. I had occasion to do some airport work last night, the first since installing the beta. Going back to sitting in the old 172 drives home the point of just how good the new one is.

  • I think LR has hit a home run with the new UI.  While I really like how accessible and clean it is (in particular the design philosophy for setting up a flight - being able to visually see the location of your parking spot is wonderful), I think the scope of improvement is truly realized by just how many FSX/P3D users are coming to check the sim out and, without the learning curve required by the old UI, sticking around for the party.

I still have two versions of FSX and one version of P3D installed between my laptop and my desktop. But to be honest, I only use them when necessary these days for beta testing or product screenshots or whatever, not for actual flying. I am firmly of the opinion that it's great to have choice - I have lots of hard drive space, so there's no reason to only pick one sim. In reality however, since I can only fly one sim at a time, it's getting pretty rare that the sim I pick is MSFS based.

Kudos to LR. I see a pretty bright future ahead!

Oh myyyy, I think I finally hit the spot. By reducing AA to 2x SSAA+FXAA from 4x SSAA+FXAA I'm able to run max # world objects and enjoy a super smooth experience with Track IR. Cities are all nice and filled out with max autogen instead of having random holes on some blocks, and forests look really nice. Setting the visibility up to 75 miles gets rid of a good chunk of the haze. This is really, really bad news for my FSX install. I'm in awe as I fly across the PNW.

Have you tried digging through the preferences file? You will see a bunch of lines like the following:

_joy_AXIS_use0 7

_joy_AXIS_use1 6

_joy_AXIS_use2 3

_joy_AXIS_use3 4

_joy_AXIS_use4 0

_joy_AXIS_use5 0

_joy_AXIS_use6 0

_joy_AXIS_use7 0

_joy_AXIS_use8 0

...

Check if the same value is set to more than one axis. I realize this may be a tedious exercise, but it might shed some light on the issue.

The preferences file can be found under the X-Plane 11 folder : X-Plane 11\Output\preferences\X-Plane.prf

Hi, I'm using the Saitek X52 FCS and my throttle worked first try (MUCH easier than what I went through with XP10). Can I do anything to help?

Thanks to both of you for your help. I'm going to reinstall and start over. i'm just running the demo right now so it's not a big deal. There obviously was a conflict and maybe starting over will help. I'll report back after I get it set up.

I think I may have found a solution to my controller issue. Per _v_ 's suggestion, I went to the X-Plane.prf and put a zero at each _joy_AXIS_use entry. I started XP11 and assigned each controller. My throttle, yoke and rudder pedals are now working as they should. I don't think it should cause a problem with anything else in XP11. Thanks to  _v_ and Arwen for your help.
