Hm, well, after reading that (specially the first three pointe) AND after making a few comparison shots I think I like XP11 default more... I am back to completely default XP and quite like it.

I'm going to keep using both. :)

I find that I prefer HD Mesh in my home area, because the mountains and the shorelines are quite a bit more accurate.  I'm an avid hiker and kayaker, so I'm very familiar with what these features are actually like in real life.  For everything else, the default is fine for now.

Yes, true, I did a flight from the airport close to where I live and the Mesh HD scenery was more accurate indeed. However, for places I don't know anyway I prefer the default scenery, also because of the better looking roads (must be the new European roads) and I do think performance is better too. I just flew around in Norway with default scenery (I only downloaded freeware airports, which I will do from now on whenever I fly from a new airport) and it looked good enough to me. (I don't even miss FTX Norway!) The idea of being there is great as long as you don't know the place too well. ;) The freeware airports do help a lot though to make things quite real anyway. (Freeware airports will be the only scenery I am going to use for a while.) They look a lot better than I expected...!

I'm holding off adding anything else until X-Plane 11 is out of beta.  I'm assuming that Gateway Airports will be part of the finished produce (or included in an early update).

The Gateway airports are updated with every new patch, including (I assume) the current beta. So what you see in every patch is the current state of the airport library, more or less. At least that's how it worked with XP10 so I'm assuming it's the same here.

New additions to the Gateway can be downloaded individually between patch cycles, if there is something new you're interested in.

Yes, they will but I was talking about the freeware airports from x-plane.org which are quite good. The gateway airports often are flat and only offer runway and taxiway changes. The airports I am talking about are better than the upgraded FTX region airports (though they lack all kinds of 'flow'). ENBR in FTX Norway looks nothing like the real thing but the X-plane.org version (created by tdg) certainly does. So for now I only add those airports: default scenery is great but I can't stand completely flat airports. ;) The rest I leave as it is: quite beautiful.

I never look at the gateway site because 1. the airports will be added automatically anyway and 2. the X-plane freeware is better.

You can try to install "prefab airports" (there is another thread here on the forum), they should add generic buildings for all the airports available in X-Plane, so that you have at least some 3D in every airport that is not yet a gateway 3D airport or a 3rd party airport that you manually installed.

Did you by any chance keep those comparison shots and if so could you share them?

I really like the HD meshes but am interested to know the visual improvements in the default mesh (not to mention save a bit of space).

Whew. I got all my addons installed in XP11 that I had in XP10. Even SkyMaxx 3, which more or less works (Uh, maybe less than more). I'm holding off on XEnviro because of the price tag, but mostly because I'm invested in SMP and FSGRW did the weather ok in XP10.

Loaded a flight @Haneda with Number of Objects to High , Reflectiosn to low / HDR  oh thats about it and now i did see my RAM usage go above 6GB.  I really haven't checked the RAM usage in Europe but will do so. Can't say about the VRAM because my card only has 1GB.

Sorry, no, threw them away already. The Mesh itself looked EXACTLY the same (I compared around LOWI) but what you saw on the ground was sometimes different. The roads (color) looked nicer, more realistic, in default. Placement of houses etc. was just different but sometimes it looked a bit more refined in default. It may well be that Mesh HD is closer to real life but default just looked better to me. It probably will be different in other places but well, I like things new and up to date. And I also like to keep as much as possible default. And besides, every fps I can win is a win.

Just started XP11 doing a flight from VAJJ to VAPO a DCT Route , 1st VOR I think is 116.60 2 miles from VAJJ and the next is 114.60 which around 60 nm , think the fog is way too much which i adjust for the moment using the artcontrols but I am not keeping anything permanent  and just can't see anything in the front but getting a good 15-18 fps on system and I expect it to go higher after updates which was the case in XP10.

The default 172 is pretty cool , wind conditions is osculating the aircraft, like the view
