Now no matter if he's in the 747 or a cessna his call sign will be Air Force One.

Not true, if he flies in his personal 757 as president the call sign is Executive One

If his family flies in the 757 without him the call sign is Executive One Foxtrot

This applies to any private owned aircraft or commercial airline. Last time it happened was when Nixon flew United Airlines as president after a string of aviation accidents to try and restore public confidence in the airlines. When he flew United the call sign was Executive One while he was on board

Simple as this:

Air Force Aircraft (regardless of type) - Air Force One

Marine Aircraft (regardless of type) - Marine One

Private Aircraft (regardless of type) - Executive One

Interesting facts, which made me want to look further. Interesting article "Air Force One-Point-Three" at http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2015/01/air-force-one-point-three/385037/

Interesting.

But the article posted above states this:

Air Force One is a military call number given to any aircraft carrying the sitting commander-in-chief.

So still not sure on this. Gonna dig further :)

This doesn't take effect til he's actually sworn into office, right?  So currently when he's in his 757, they still go by tail number.  It won't be til January 20 that it would become Executive One.

Yes this is why I said it the way I did

if he flies in his personal 757 as president the call sign is Executive One

Currently he is President Elect so this would not apply yet. He has already used his aircraft as President Elect. IF he uses his aircraft as President then it would be Executive One

From what I can tell he would be the second President to have a private jet. Lyndon Johnson owned a Lockheed Jetstar that he used to fly to his ranch while he was President. That aircraft is now on display at his ranch

This is interesting, thanks Matthew.

This made me wonder about when W. landed on that aircraft carrier. I had sort of remembered it being a Navy aircraft and, turns out it was an S-3 Viking. Even more, the nomenclature logic you cited holds true: that aircraft was designated "Navy One" while he was on board.
