I can't activate FSX as "an unexpected error occurred"

Recommended Posts

I installed the Gold Version of SFX into a dedicated Folder in my iMac "Bootcamp" partition with no problem.

However during the booting of FSX I receive a message reading  ..................

"An unexpected error occurred which is preventing product activation from being completed. Error Code1-80004005"

I'm then given the option of further information on a Microsoft site but nowhere (and no surprise) is there help for FSX problems.

If I continue booting FSX I get as far as my 777 being on the runway for about 30 seconds before FSX ends.

Help would be much appreciated.

Cliff

You might try the following link if you are having problems activating your product - http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-gaming/error-code-1-80004005-after-successful/1fc61f92-67c6-4d20-a9c9-450be093574d

It sounds like FSX tried to start up product activation but for some reason did not complete it.  You may have to completely uninstall it and remove all the files in the hidden folders/registry and then try again.

Best regards,

Jim

As part of your search for a solution, you could check this out in your System Registry (this correction has helped some to get FSX activated and remember to take care when changing Registry values):

1.   Windows Key +R, then type regedit and OK.

2.   Expand the following registry key:

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4d36e967-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}

3.   After you find the folder, double-click Upperfilters on the right side.
4.   Change the value from 0 to  PartMgr  (case sensitive) and delete any other word that may be next to it and click
OK.   If it is already

PartMgr  then you will need to find another solution.

5.   Close Registry Editor
6.   Start FSX and hopefully you should get the registration wizard.

Many thanks Angels40 as your solution as per above has also proven successful in my case too. I've just installed a new SSD, HHD and RAM which required a full re-install and tried many other solutions so thanks very much.

Thank you so much Angels40. Your solution worked perfectly for me also. I was trying to reinstall FSX Gold on a new computer.

I simply put a capital P and M in PartMgr like you said it is case sensitive.

Thanks again!

Ron
