Performance impact 1070/1080

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I currently have the GTX 970 and was looking to upgrade to a higher spec graphics card for better performance. I've heard about the GTX 1080 although it is quite expensive. Although the GTX 1070 seems to be the one to go for. I've looked around and I can't find a clear answer to what the Fps and performance difference/impact would be on either on the GTX 1070 or 1080 against my 970. Don't really want to invest money on something when I'm not sure what the impact will be on it. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. This is in P3D V3

Thanks

I upgrade from a 970 4 gigs to a 1060 6gigs and see a 10 to 15% improvement. A 1070 should be even better.

I just had a new system built and the 1070 was a better value.  You won't see a significant enough increase in performance with a 1080 to justify the cost IMO!

Hi,

i jumped from 980SLI to 1080. As i keep my refresk rate at 30Hz i do not see an FPS increase but is see more smoothness in almost every situation i fly. Wether NGX into FSDT KORD with 40% UT2 traffic or VFR over PNW with ORBX airfields and AS16 weather. No prob for the 1080. For me a perfect GPU.

Keep in mind i do not count FPS i stay at 30 FPS al the time. My goal is smootness.

Am currently running a 980ti in P3D v3, and I've thought about a move to a 1070 or 1080, but my sense is the improvement would be pretty incremental.  What do you guys think?

My experience is a smother flight, less noticeable scenery sharpening and no blurries whatsoever in P3d.

Does anyone know the FPS impact a GTX 1070 or 1080 would have against my 970?

Hi Robbie,

i think that is the wrong question you ask. IMHO you cant measure it in FPS. For ex. flying in a Alabeo Tomahawk over busy Flightbeam KPHX gives me 40-50 FPS @ 1080p. Doing the same flight in the NGX i get 30-35 FPS That you can achieve with a 980ti as well. What a GTX1080 makes great ist the smoothnes. Smooth texture loading smooth panning fast camera view switching etc. You wont get the mega FPS gain here.

I went from a 970 to a 1070, and while there wasn't a great increase in FPS, as others have said the smoothness is on another level.

Interesting.  I'm just setting up my P3D 3.4 after migrating back from FSX:SE.  Running my 980ti to drive a 4K 50" TV/monitor at 30 Hz, and frames are pretty consistent at 30, but I get a little microstutter on the side views.  Sounds like that's where the 1070/1080 would have an impact.

CPU speed will have the most effect on FPS...what processor are you running?  I really doubt you will see a noticeable FPS difference between the 1070 or 1080...

Thanks
