XP11 haze quantity & clouds color (solved)

I found other Dataref  :smile:

This code introduced band fog on distant horizon.
Example 0.000000 value:

This code "killed" glare sun effect.

Be patient Mitch, I think the reason why LR has limited Graphics preferences is because for them (Im a developer too) is easier to go through all of the bugs reported in a sort of standard scenario compared to figuring out the bugs with too many difference preference scenarios, this just makes life and debugging a lot harder and time consuming.

 

I bet that once the bugs that have the most impact in performance/stability are squashed, we will see additional preferences.

Amazing. Just amazing. A click with the mouse and the sky is fine again. The stars and the moon must also be hidden somewhere in these controls  :hi:

You need the dataref editor , it's a plugin which you put under XplaneFOLDER/Resources/Plugin and then when you are in a flight click on the plugin menu / dataref / showartcontrols.

How do I actually change the value?  If i enter the line of text at the bottom and press enter nothing happens.

But I did think of another question.  Anyone know why the trees are affected by sun glare/low contrast but the houses don't appear to be.  The contrast between the trees and houses looks horrible at certain times of the day... mainly when they are backlit.

 

Any clues?

I have been playing around with OP's starting settings trying in dial in how I had RTH in XP10.  Here are the settings if anyone is interested.  I think it looks pretty good for a start.  If you just want to reduce haze, use the last parameter and lower to your liking.

Because it is a BETA and it has a lot of bugs! there are even a lot of known bugs, which you can read about:

And there you find:

  • XPD-6827 Shadows or artifact on trees

 

I would also gently repeat (even if I know it doesn't change much): all the haze / weather tweaking fiddling here at the moment is like shooting at a wildly moving target. A BETA (repeat: BETA!) is per Laminars own definition a moving target. It can and will change a lot ... so even if some of the findings here might (and will) prove useful in the long run, many of them might quickly loose their value with even the next BETA. After Laminar quite likely received a thousand bugs - rightly so - about the atmosphere its to be expected that they will tweak it too (and if both sides are tweaking, then the end result might be surprising in a "chaotic system" :smile: )

Nice finds! But I'd also like to know how to get these changes stick! The more tweaks we get, the longer it takes before I can start flying...! I hate to do all this every time! I am reading about LUA scripts: don't have any experience with that... maybe someone could write a short tutorial?

ok, these DataRefs are (all) aready used in XP10 (many of them explained and shared here and im X-Plane.org forum) and few are new in XP11 - there are already many topics about that , RTH is based on this things !

for first you need the DataRefEditor (but that´s clear), then the FlyWithLua plugin - http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/files/file/17468-flywithlua-for-xp9-and-xp10/ - put this plugin in the main plugin folder (whatever):\X-Plane 11\Resources\plugins

 

The scripts are very easy to use - se example below:

and there are much more - that´s again one of the "cool stuff" in XP, you can adapt some settings for your taste  - f.e. look for "sun_pitch_degrees"  - in this way you can change this values according to the "time of day" with this dataref - there are so many possibilities !
 
a very, very simple example, the values are in german language but:  sonnwinkel=sunpitch  blauwert=blue  rotwert=red  grauwert=grey, but I thik it´s very self explaining
