PMDG 737 NGX with AS2016 - Weather Radar Problems

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have recently purchased Active Sky 2016 and am struggling to get the weather radar working with the NGX. I have attempted flying in thunderstorms and also the WXR test, but nothing shows up on the ND. I can confirm WXR is selected on the ND and I have also adjusted tilt/gain multiple ways in attempt to get it working. When I click the WXR test with WXR selcted on ND, all that shows up is 'WXR Test' in yellow, but no coloured scans display. I have disabled weather controlled by FSUIPC and have gone through the recommendations in this article: http://support.precisionmanuals.com/kb/a109/weather-radar-troubleshooting.aspx without success. I have even tried a repair installation of the NGX, with no luck.

This is my ND when I try a test.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I could resolve this?

Thanks.

The most common mistake is believing the radar is going to portray clouds. It doesn't. You need to find or set up a weather situation with precipitation happening. Other than that, there isn't much to the set up other than ensuring AS16 radar data network port is set to the default value.

I have loaded in a custom weather station with maxed out precipitation without any radar returns, with tilt and gain set. My problem that stands out is the radar test, which shouldn't need to be conducted with any special conditions, however it displays no coloured scans. Any suggestions on what this may mean?

I completely reinstalled the NGX, deleting all PMDG folders and then reinstalling. I loaded up at an airport in thick precip, and customised it to make it even worse, The radar still won't work, however I believe I can now rule out that it is a PMDG related problem.

Airborne, into the rain without any radar returns

EDIT: What do you know, FSUIPC was the culprit.

After uninstalling FSUIPC, I loaded in and the WXR worked!

I would just like to know now how I can get FSUIPC to allow the WXR to work...

I had to review the PMDG link you provided because I've never had to use it, and I see that it has a section on FSUIPC issues with the radar. One thing I noted is the know issues with earlier versions interfering with the operation of the radar. Perhaps all you need to do is get the current FSUIPC version?

Took me a while to get the radar to show anything.  I found some historic thunderstorm weather and, after takeoff (not just on the ground), I then saw the weather radar spring to life.

Until then, I was convinced it wasn't working.

I was using the current version of FSUIPC, 4.958, and had problems. Has anyone else been affected by this version? Is there a previous version I should roll back to?

I have never used FSUIPC, never had a need for it and never had any problems that many report with FSUIPC as the culprit.

Why use it at all with PMDG ? That is a serious question, what is there to be gained ?

I use it to translate buttons and switches on my throttle and joystick controllers into key commands for assignments in the PMDG Options Key Commands menu.  It's an easy way to watch or log VAS remaining too. Other than that, nothing else for me.

The weather test looks like it failed. If you have service life failures on, check the FMC failure page to see if you have any active. It may just be an actual system failure.
