Strange but its working !

Recommended Posts

So something i found by mistake but it seems to be helping my frames and overall smoothness, i use Process Lasso and set my Affinity mask for P3d from within it. i had it set to all four cores (I7 4790k HT off).  Core 0 was being utilized may more than 1-3 so i turned it off for p3d.  There was not much of a difference so i turned it back on and wow all four cores are being used very close in sync and the frames went up a small amount but still. it also got smoother and less stutter. I have repeated this  my last few times and works every time. i will make a video of this later and put it up.  So just to see if i am Nuts if you use process Lasso please look at it with all cores on while P3D is running and then turn off core 0 then turn back on see if it smooths out.

This is old news.

I keep mentioning it from time to time, but usually get to hear it's not advised to do that. There was even a remark by one of the developers in the Prepar3d forum stating it's detrimental as it destroys the native P3D threading mechanism. Originally it's core 0 doing all the management and the other cores are essentially loading scenery only. The switching scheme gets these other cores used better, however, at the cost of more management overhead between the cores.

I used this switching scheme for some time (making a batch file for automating the process in the background). However, while gross CPU exploitation was better indeed, this didn't pay off in any visible advantage (like fps). Thus, I don't use it anymore - you never know which gremlins are attracted by such tricks.

Kind regards, Michael
