Non US resident seeks geographical help

Recommended Posts

Guest JustanotherPilot

Hi,

I would like help in choosing suitable US west coast payware airports for flying the 737 NGX between, ideally the flights would be 60 to 90 minutes duration which is the max I can fly before OOM and VAS cease operations.

I have all ORBX coverage of the west coast and PAJN Juneau, Alaska. I also have SimMarket KSEA and Aerosoft KSMF which is totally unusable as I OOM before leaving the gate.

I have been using Flightaware.com to select realworld flights, plan them with PFPX and have a fondness for the Alaska Airlines B737-700, but have a liking for all US airlines. I want to add to the realism.

Because of my non familiarity with the US geography relating to Airports I find it difficult to find appropriate flights, although I have visited your great country several times and flown across many times in real world commercial flights, which is similar in size to my native Australia, whilst traveling I never really thought of duplicating the flights via FSX/P3D/XP, until now

Any and all suggestions for payware airports that might meet my needs would be appreciated.

Steve

Steve, been thinking about your situation. Sad to read that your OOM and Vas is limiting your ops. I take it you do switch off all scenery that is not required ?  e.g with  https://sourceforge.net/projects/fs-sceditor/

( works also in P3d). You also know about the trick to save and reload the flight inflight or whenever your VAS is at a minimum ?  When restarting with the saved scenario the Vas is to a certain point reset.

I also fly mostly in the area that you describe but use the Majestic Dash. The PMDG737 is on my system indeed also a bit Vas hungry while the Dash allows me to do even returnflights. Apart from that the Dash is an aboslute joy to fly.

As to your scenery question . You could also consider  Flightbeam's KDEN, which I find is not not so Vas hungry. I am also loking forward to the soon to be released KSLC from Pacsim.

Hi Dick,

Yes I use the scenery tool to turn off the non use scenery, even have the sliders way down -it's just v 3.4 never had the problem before then. I do fly the Q400 on short domestic hops but also like the longer jet routes. I'll have a look at KDEN and keep watching for KSLC

thanks steve

You can't go wrong with flying to and from Los Angeles and San Francisco. Hundreds of daily flights arrive and depart at both airports, both short haul and long haul, domestic and international.

FSDT KLAX and Flightbeam KSFO are excellent add-ons for these airports.

I don't discount your problem with VAS but something is not right with your setup. I have an 2700k, 8GB ram and GTX 670 4GB video card, Win 7 64bit, own somewhere around 50 Addon airports, plus ORBX stuff, photoscenery, WOAI and UT2 traffic, AS16 providing weather and fly the PMDG 737 across the US, PMDG 777 on 10 to 16 hour flights and never had an OOM.

Having said that, I believe you should look at your setup and figure out why your getting OOM after such sort times. No reason to settle for that and have to fly short distances. I know that many people, including myself fly the PMDG birds on flights lasting 2 hours to 17 hours with no issues.

Without knowing your complete setup meaning scenery.cfg, FSX.cfg, all addons and details, it's hard to give more comprehensive ideas on how to solve.

Look to these developers for a lot of good US airports.

LatinVFR

FlyTampa

Tropical Sim has one

Taxi2Gate has a few

There is also ImagineSim but I don't recommended them as much due to possible performance issues with FPS and VAS.
