Night Environment X in P3D - Worth it?

Recommended Posts

Hi

I've begun to think about trying to improve my night lighting in the sim as I'm getting a bit fed up with the default lighting. I'm not planning to get ORBX Global as I'm weary about space so I've been considering Night Environment X.

This is mainly for Europe so does anyone have any advice on whether to get this product or night depending on performance? I want to have reasonable frames (25-35fps) on my PC (specs are below) and I fly the Airbus a lot so does anyone think I should give the product a go?

Any thoughts or advice is more than welcome!

Thanks in advance!

Be advised that these kind of add-ons can eat VAS like there is no tomorrow (depending on settings and other installed scenery)

I had installed the product of Aerosoft for UK and uninstalled it after 2 flights because of VAS usage/OOM's.

I am pretty happy with NE GERMANY X at 50% with FTX OPENLCEU using the DASH8.

Can be a little tricky to use with the PMDG's as VAS might/can be a problem

Otherwise a great product

Night environment is working on a new product that would cover the whole world... Chris has been quiet for a long time.. I hope he comes over and gives us some news once in a while.

It doesn't mean the current NE is not to be purchased.

NE is fantastic.. I love it.  Its gorgeous over Orbx, default and photosceneries during night and during dawn and dusk (My fav time to fly).

So what happens when the new NE comes out? when the new NE comes out, NE is going to be useful in areas you have Photosceneries cause the new NE product would get covered (blocked) if you have phototextures.

If you are not gonna have Photosceneries, then you may want to wait for the new NE or if you cannot wait, yeah get the NE.

NE does add to VAS consumption...  I would not advice the NE over GB.  or anyareas you do not have spare  VAS available.

If you have Fly Tampa OMDB, I would suggest getting NE for Dubai... its spectacular.  If you have photoscenery for Spain (I believer there was a freeware)  then get NE for Spain.

Thanks for all the comments!

I've never had an OOM in P3D before but I haven't monitored VAS particularly so I don't really know whether NE will prove a problem.

I'm more concerned about fps at the moment so can anyone help me out?

Again, thanks for the quick replies!

Fps wise I've never had any problems with it. I love it. It's about the only product I've seen for the big sims that gives you real life lighting that you can navigate by that goes right out to the horizon.

I do have vas issues though so have stopped using it but then I do have a very heavily loaded orbx global, vector and regions.

Try out the night environment in the stock New X-Plane free11Beta, and you will never want to fly any Microsoft or Microsoft derivative like P3d after unset again.

OK, I'll do a flight tomorrow from Gatwick to Edinburgh (where VAS would probs be most going over London) and see how the VAS levels cope.

Hahaha, I'll take your word for XP11. i've seen it on YT and it looks TOO real! But unfortunately I've already invested quite a lot into P3D and I'm looking for system depth in the airbus which I don't think will deliver in the JAR.

Thanks all anyway for the comments. I'll report back with the VAS levels

Night Environment used to be very heavy on VAS in certain areas as you had no control over the amount of data being sent to the sim. Now, however, all dedicated Night Environment regions come with compatibility towards their Night Environment Manager that lets you choose exactly what, where and how much of the lights you want represented. That dramatically lowers VAS usage as you can allow it to light all or specific types of roads.

If that isn't to your liking then you can wait just a little longer and purchase Black Marble (from the same developer) that will provide lighting all over the globe with vector data so it's highly accurate (think XPlane like lighting). Pictures and videos of the same can be viewed on his forum (forum.nightenvironment.com). The product is ready for release but the developer is waiting on the back-end infrastructure to be completed.
