Realistic Night Lighting Tweaks

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I am really excited to hear PTA V2 is available now!

Right now I am struggling on light settings during the night.

In P3D V3, the night is too bright even for a new moon night. I really want to know if PTA V2 can fix or tweak something like this.

Is there any night lighting tweak, I think X-plane 10 has a fair realistic night  though. Can we achieve an ideal night lighting similar to, as seen in Xplane 10 via PTA V2?

I guess many people want to know the answer like I do. I really wish the developers and the users of PTA can help me with it.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Warm Regards,

Gordon.

Hi Gordon.

If the night is too bright you can try any of these suggestions:

- Change the sky textures.

- If you use HDR mode in sim try to adjust TONEMAP_NIGHT_EXPOSURE_KEY value in prepar3d.cfg.

- In PTA 2.0 use "Terrain lighting" tweak and reduce the level of moon light (Ambient and Diffuse moonlight ratio).

We can't achieve the night lighting environment similar to X-Plane 10/11 via PTA. It needs modifications in core sim code.

(Some users use high HDR bloom at night environment but it affects also a VC and IMHO it's far from X-Plane 10/11 lighting quailty.)

Hi GSalden,

It's Gordon here, I tried to PM you but unfortunately it suggests you cannot receive any new message.
I take a snapshot here if you want to acquire more information.
So I have to reply you in the post and the following sentences apply to the content of the message.

I always want a realistic night lighting tweak since the night is too bright in P3D. I'm very glad that we can partially enhance the night lighting via PTA V3 tweak. I really appreciate you want to share your tweak and experiences.
If you have time, please send the tweak to this email:

dragordon1295@gmail.com

Even though the night lighting environment is still far from realistic night quality, but we can always discuss improving its quality. I will send you a friend request if you want to have a further discussion about this:)

Warm regards,
Gordon

Hi KNOSSOS,

Sorry for the late reply and thank you for your suggestions.

I will look into this to see if we find a compromise.

Warm regards,

Folks, I have a different issue. My nights are awesome, dark as should be, and that by only setting up the daytime environment. Good to know I kinda found a one-size-fits-all solution. Well... Kinda. Because the issue now is the brightness of the airport terminal walls, they're WAY too bright! Even the pavement around the terminals are giving some kind of color aberration. I'm talking about airports like KIAH of FSDT. Is there a solution for this? Thanks, and happy new year!
