JustSim LFMN - possible issue with the 04R ILS?

Recommended Posts

Last flight into JustSim's LFMN I shot an ILS approach into 04R in the NGX and even when I was fully established on the localizer according to my PFD I found myself off to the right.

Not sure if it maybe was some temporary issue.

Anyone else seen this?

The ILS has an offset of 2 degrees compared to the runway.

Now you can try your real flying skills Richard ...

Ah, that's interesting and this means everything is as it should be?

Well, I made it down in one piece thanks  but was a bit surprised when I realized I was off to the right even when fully est on the LOC.

I went back to look at the charts and I guess you can see what you say about this offset looking closely but nothing mentioned about it on the charts in text which I find a bit strange.

Seems like quite important info to me but maybe it's the same thing IRL. I use the Navigraph Charts Cloud service.

Yep...that looks very familiar and clearly shows what I'm talking about. Good to know this isn't an issue but by design.

Wonder what the reason for this offset is, to keep the traffic away from 04L/22R traffic?

The ILS Antenna is placed left of the runway (red/White Box) and has a 42 degrees direction.

In reality 04R is used for take off and 04L for landing.

According to the ILS chart for 04R I have in front of me the inbound course is 041 and the reason I picked 04R for landing is I noticed that was the runway in use for landing IRL yesterday looking at flightradar24.com.

Anyways I made it down safely and next time I will remember this

Rw 4R is used too .

When landing disable the AP at 500 ft minimum so you can correct heading...

Yep, that's what I did. Or actually I went manual from 1000 ft.

Little bit of 'insider knowledge' for Nice:

The preferred approach is “Circling with prescribed tracks”.

When conditions permit, preference is given to operating on runways 04L/04R. Note – The approach course for ILS 04R is offset from the runway centreline.

1) Runways 04 will be the preferential runways when weather allows.

2) RNAV 04 will be the preferred approach when Runways 04 are in use.

3) ILS 04 will be used when weather does not allow RNAV 04.

4) When winds require use of Runways 22; VOR 22B will be the preferred approach (RNAV 22 may be offered to crew when traffic permits).

5) When winds require use of Runways 22 and weather does not allow VOR 22B approach; RNAV 22 will be used.

All the above non-ILS approaches have enhanced FMS coding to each runway threshold, when the correct approach label is selected in the FMS.

NOTE: Crew should line-select the appropriate RNAV enhanced coding from the FMS navigation database; RNVV 04L, RNVV 04R, RNVV 22L or RNVV 22R.

NOTE: The other ‘RNV’ labelled approaches in the FMS navigation database do not contain enhanced guidance to the runway threshold and therefore provide less FMS guidance to the pilot.

777 RNAV Approach: Follow standard Non-ILS Approach SOPs, with the following modifications:

1) Line select; RNVV 04L, RNVV 04R, RNVV 22L or RNVV 22R from the FMS.

2) Use MDA of 500 for this visual circling procedure, rather than chart MDA.

3) For CDA approach on runway 22L/22R, the aircraft may descend after the FAF.

4) PAPIs for Runway 22L and 22R are set at 3.5 degrees (with the intent of approach noise abatement).

The approach coding in the FMS is coded for 3 degrees. The resulting height difference between PAPI and FMS over the very short distance on final approach is

minor.

5) Glidepath may be maintained to landing as per Non-ILS Approach SOP.
