38 minutes ago, John V. stated there will be NO X-Plane Orbx development

Haters are gonna hate...

Personal feelings aside, I think the development is sad for X-Plane, ORBX and the simming community as a whole.

Only good things can come from having more offerings for X-Plane, even if it doesn't tickle the fancy of some individuals. I still think people overstimate the size of ORBX and other so called major players among addon developers. Aerosoft and ORBX are important publishing vehicles for small time hobby artists, and for most of them it's not about the money, but getting access to infrastructure and support to make their projects come true.

I got 99 problems, but Orbx on Xplane ain't one

Dumping X Plane (which he said has no future) for Aerofly (apparently has more of a future than X Plane).
I'm stunned at the business decision being made here.

This is what baffles me. X-Plane might have a small but growing share of simmers, but Aerofly users are an even smaller part of that (Just check the Steam stats). If this wasn't a personal thing, then I think possibly the technical limitations of X-Plane in regards to mesh patches, the limit of 1x1 tiles, etc may have played a part as it does inhibit the creativity of scenery developers.

Either way, it's sad, but no love lost. They do have a talented group of developers who may or may not in the future go their own way (as Russ and Bill Womack have). But X-Plane won't wait for it to happen, and there are plenty of other budding developers out there who will happily fill in the place ORBX have left them (Looking at you Beti-X)

Personally, I'm glad to hear this. I've never been a fan of X-Plane - the scenery just looks unrealistic and strange in my opinion, not to mention the fact that it lacks a lot of features that FSX has, and I'm glad ORBX won't be wasting time developing for this platform.

The future of flight simulation lies with P3D and DTG simulation platforms.

We have arrived at XP11 and still do not have credible ATC or AI planes, not to mention weather engine. One might ask what they have been doing all this time?

This is no different with Aerofly. In fact, there is still a lot missing from this platform for it to even catch up to XP10, but I'm still very happy to see Aerofly get this boost, it's a very promising platform.

Personally I was quite astonished at JV's original roadmap announcement with its thinly veiled reference to other sims which I thought was wholly unprofessional on his part. Some sort of PR/marketing gimmick is not the way to deal with major ventures such as these but was clearly devised to generate more traffic on Orbx and discussion of their products generally.

If Austin has indeed taken exception to this as seems to be being hinted at then I am not in the least bit surprised.

Cheers,

Geoffrey Easton

That is true, however you got to consider how many developers Aerofly has (as far as i remember you could count them on a single hand), the fact it's a product that arrived only recently and the fact it offers a more "casual" way of flying, which would probably make at least complex weather systems a bit less needed.

Dang...now THAT was funny!   :Tounge:

Well, I posted a few things in the Orbx XP announcement topic that weren't all negative (imho), I even posted some lighthearted remarks, but, my bad, I ended a post saying something like 'Who knows what will happen in the future: JV always has a lot of surprises. Unfortunately not always positive ones'. Result: all my posts have been removed from that topic (even the nice and funny ones) and I am banned for a week. LOL Yes, that's JV alright.  Ah, well, no problem: I already lost interest in anything Orbx anyway.

I think, as some already posted, the decision to stop the support of XP after the BIG $ R&D of a whopping two weeks :hi: is 1. personal as well as 2. technical (it would cost them too much to simply port things to XP) so in all possible ways this was a doomed idea. It is a shame but I do think XP11 on its own is already creating enough buzz to make it without Orbx. I wish them good luck with FSX/P3D and Aerofly FS 2 (I still don't see why they are so hyped about it: probably because porting to AFS2 is extremely easy and hence cheap). And whenever JV announces something in the future, I would take it with a pinch of salt. Well, let's make that a ****** of salt.  :P

Good riddance to Orbx. Way over price OOM creating upgrade? I already jumped ship when they said all future releases of P3D will require a full repurchase of the products. When you have spent well over $1000 on Orbx that is a very sour taste to accept! No thanks.

They never wrote that. Read carefully my friend.

We do not always agree but this post just hit the nail on the head... :good:

Orbx has made it clear for a year now that version 4 of P3D will require a completely new purchase of products as the upgrade to version 3 was the last free upgrade! So yes they have wrote that and that's why I've not wasted a penny on Orbx in over a year. Prior to that statement I purchased approximately 1 product a month from Orbx to the tune of about $1000. I am sure I am not the only person who stopped buying Orbx products when they announced that!

I've owned every version of flight simulator since Flight Simulator 3.0 in 1988.

Windows 11 Pro loaded on a 4TB Gen5 Crucial T700 SSD, 4TB Samsung 990 Pro SSD, Ryzen 9 7950x3d, AS Rock X670e Taichi Motherboard, Gigabyte Gaming RTX 4090 OC 24GB, 64GB (2x32GB) Viper Venom  DDR5-6000MT/s, MSI 32" MAG 321UPX QD-OLED 260hz 4K Gaming Monitor.

Have you tried VR with FlyInside on XP or P3D? FlyInside let's you control every switch within VR. You might change your mind once you've experienced that.

100% agree with Lenny777 above.

yes i have and i own VR set.  VR is a tech demo. The resolution is too low for constant use, with glasses its uncomfortable, its hot you start sweating after 30 minutes use. Noone can tell me at the moment that they are using it 2-3h a day on a tubeliner flight.

Its great for short VFR trips, the immersion is great and the first time you experience the speed of an approach or the height of an plane its breathtaking. but it does loose its wow and then you start to go back to your normal monitor.

Regardless of upgrade policies, I stopped buying 32 bit addons about a year ago (Two exceptions, ORBX Narvik-Framnes and REX HD Airports) . I'm waiting for P3D 64 bit, and if don't happen, I'm gonna live with what I have allready have amassed. Still got plenty of airports I've never installed and aircraft I've never flown waiting on my hard drive... But I'm hoping to start clean with P3D v4 and get rid of all my 32 bit baggae - 2 terrabytes of addons dating back to FS98....

I've got to hand it to ORBX though. Unlike most developers they've been the best of the bunch in terms of upgrading their addons for each new version of P3D - and free of charge. How many other devs have shown the same dedication and generosity?
